Re: Dual points for R69S (or any twin with magneto ignition)

image001.jpg Doug, This picture of a dual points setup on a Pentacom plate comes from an article in VMCA Vol. 8, Issue 2, page 17. (Look under the magazines tab on this site) The intent of the dual points in this article was to provide dual ignition systems for double plugged engines by adding a se...

Re: 79 Points in a can system rebuild

Steve,

There was a post on a points beancan rebuild here as well.

https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/poin ... ld.394966/

I tried to disassemble mine to service the advance but chickened out when the force needed to get it apart exceeded my comfort zone.

Re: What options for identifying a loud tic in left cylinder

Mal, While oil in the rocker covers is a good indication of flow, I have been caught out on one bike. Lots of oil in the cover but running the engine with the cover off showed me that only the intake rocker was getting oil. The exhaust rocker was dry. Previous owners disease found this plug of silic...

Re: R90/6 slipping in low gear

Craig,
It was just a thought.
I'm glad you checked it before putting the gearbox back together.
Hope you find the issue.

Re: R90/6 slipping in low gear

Craig,
Have you inspected the "cush drive" on the input shaft of the gearbox?
A weak or broken spring would allow it to slip over the cams with a pulsing clunk.

Re: Trouble bleeding the brake master cylinder

Keith,
I hadn't seen it mentioned but it is critical that the brake cable from the handlebar be adjusted correctly.
If it is too tight it will block off the refill hole that feeds the master cylinder piston and you will be unable to build pressure.

Re: How to fit the Krauser cast carrier rack

Mal, Those cast racks were sold by Krauser as their "universal" mounting system. As is the case for most "fits all motorcycles" products, they didn't do a good job on any bikes. The multi-holed metal straps and cheap hardware made every installation look poor. The instructions ca...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

Mal, Werner,

The handlebar switchgear on the bike and in Werner's pictures are both correct /6 era switchgear.
The /7 series moved the signal light switch to the left side.
Attached examples of /7 switchgear.

Re: R80G/S Signal, High-Beam switch Rebuild

The flash function bypasses the headlight relay.
I would double check your headlight relay before opening up the switch.

Re: New Addition

The signal light beeper on the /7 is actually a fairly elegant setup. If it is working correctly it will only beep if you are in gear and the clutch is engaged. This eliminates the annoyance of the beeping while you are waiting for a light or stopped in traffic. Car drivers are usually blind to the ...
