Re: 79 Points in a can system rebuild
There was a post on a points beancan rebuild here as well.

I tried to disassemble mine to service the advance but chickened out when the force needed to get it apart exceeded my comfort zone.

Re: R90/6 slipping in low gear
It was just a thought.
I'm glad you checked it before putting the gearbox back together.
Hope you find the issue.

Re: R90/6 slipping in low gear
Have you inspected the "cush drive" on the input shaft of the gearbox?
A weak or broken spring would allow it to slip over the cams with a pulsing clunk.

Re: Trouble bleeding the brake master cylinder
I hadn't seen it mentioned but it is critical that the brake cable from the handlebar be adjusted correctly.
If it is too tight it will block off the refill hole that feeds the master cylinder piston and you will be unable to build pressure.

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes
The handlebar switchgear on the bike and in Werner's pictures are both correct /6 era switchgear.
The /7 series moved the signal light switch to the left side.
Attached examples of /7 switchgear.

I would double check your headlight relay before opening up the switch.
