Kick start kit

There actually used to be a "kit" available to retrofit a kick starter to a /6 transmission. In the day, I retrofit many transmissions. Yes, the kick start was capable of starting the engine but it was a bit frustrating to use if you compare it to a /5 kick start. As far as I know, the &qu...

What year?

From memory,... In order to place the proper stickers, what year is the bike? In 1970/ 71 the only stickers that I remember being used is the "inspection" sticker on the top of the rear fender (when it was there at all), the black and white tire sticker was on the bottom of the seat in the...

1972 BMW R75/5 project for sale

Offering for sale my 1972 BMW R75/5 project motorcycle. I don't think I'll ever get it done due to arthritis in my hands. The motor is completely rebuilt as is the four speed transmission. The rest of the motorcycle is in "barn find" condition. Barn find meaning in need of paint, tires and...

Crankshaft

That seems like a lot BUT, if it ran fine with no excessive noise, I'd be tempted to just leave well enough alone.

Head Gasket

Between the pushrod tubes is a pretty common place for the head gasket to start leaking, it likely won't get worse. When you do replace the head gasket, check the head on a surface plate or piece of glass. What is likely is the head is a bit warped, I see this very often. Lay a sheet of sand paper o...

Parts

The two metal, curved plates look like front number plates or pedestrian slicers (as I've heard them called).

Nope

The owner had trouble accepting that it wasn't actually a BMW, although, he adjusted the year in his ad to 1952 (the serial number listed it as an EMW of 1952). I wanted to get something pre 1948 for the Junior Cannonball, so I passed on it.

Input on R35

Hi there, a local fellow has been advertising a (what he calls) a 1936 BMW R35 that is not running. I have determined that the bike is actually a 1951 EMW R35 and have been able to prove what it actually is BUT, I have no idea what it should be worth. Anyone here have an idea what it should be worth...

Just my opinion,... I think more to the point is that there's not a lot of activity here. A lot of the folks that are members work on their bikes themselves but leave things like transmissions, rear drives and lower ends to the professionals. When I say professionals, I don't mean the newer BMW shop...

Air Filter

The body of the air filter should be silver, so should be the knob unless the knob is Bakelite, then it's black. The shaft of the knob is raw. Don't forget to lube the choke after you paint the body or it may rust closed. I have even used a "hammer lacquer" to give a nice effect. The filte...
