Re: Air tubes for 1959 R60

Go for it. A normal chrome plating job consists of a copper base coat, polished to desired shine, a nickel middle coat to seal the copper, and a chrome flash to make it all shine. If the under two coats are not done correctly, there are hairline cracks that allow moisture to get to the parent metal....

Re: Retouch or repaint?

Wada ya know!

It's been a long while since I've seen a wiffle shield.
You just decreased your top speed by 2 MPH.
And it will be interesting to find out which key it "sings" in.

Re: Guidance

And you also don't want to cut the carb cables, since you may end up having to have them replicated and they will be used used as the pattern.

Re: R26, 1958

Balancing of single cylinder engine is usually done using a percentage of the reciprocating weight mounted on the crank pin, and balanced that way. The percentage is based on experience, read 'trial and error', and varies depending on what RPM you want the smoothest operation. Fifty to sixty five pe...

Re: Bike wobble due to grooves in freeway

I had the same problem on my R51/3. While renewing the front tire, I checked the bearings, and they were a little loose. New bearings cured the problem.

Since it sounds like the hole

Since it sounds like the hole is below the compression area of the cylinder, the most pressure differential you can have is crankcase pressure and ambient. Harley Ableson used to coat the inside of their crank cases to keep them from seeping oil, due to the porous castings. In this day of modern pla...

Over night soak

in lacquer thinner will soften the deposits. A small bristle brush will do the rest.
Compressed air at a high pressure will clean out the orifices, unless they are really plugged.

Out of curiousity

It looks as though the taps are tapered for a part of their length, and then straight. If so, how did you turn them? Or is the root diameter the same full length, and just the thread form truncated? A total length taper could be done with an offset tail center. CNC machine? Inquiring minds want to k...

Rubber lube

If anyone has any suggestions as to something you might treat the gasket with to prolong life, I’d be interested. Chris Back in the day, we used brake fluid, DOT 3 since that was all there was, to lube the rubber parts on automobiles that were exposed to the elements. It didn't hurt the rubber parts...

another trick

Thank you.
The freezer tip is well known over here :H

That takes care of the cold, so next time you use the hotplate to heat a bearing, place a few drops of oil on the bearing, and when it starts to smoke, it is about 450 far,+/-. That is not hot enough to change the temper in the races.
