clutch control assembly

Hey, I'm back at this problem. I've figured a few things out but not enough to solve the problem yet. I've chewed up another needle bearing in the clutch control assembly. This time I pulled the thrust rod out a bit to get a look. The first question I have is about the thrust ring. I can't tell whet...

Re: thrust rod broken

I sometimes create more problems than I solve when working on this bike. I did put the clutch pack in correctly and had oil dribbling out of the transmission before I plugged it. I removed the rear wheel because I need a new tire, but it also let me get a better look at what's going on. I've attache...

Re: thrust rod broken

I followed that very diagram when installing and that's how everything came out. I can't help think there is some blockage or something in my transmission that is keeping the gear oil from reaching the bearing. When I pulled out the bearing two weeks ago to replace the rod, it had the grease on it I...

Re: thrust rod broken

And the saga continues. I got my clutch put back together and things were working fine. Then I started to get too much play in the clutch so I readjusted it at least three times - the last time today using the Cutter method. I was test riding and things were working great until I stopped at a light ...

Re: thrust rod broken

Thanks so much, guys. I think I may have done several things wrong that led to this problem. First, when I installed the thrust rod and piston last time I mistakenly put grease on it rather than understand it's bathed in transmission oil. Second, I have often held the clutch lever in at stoplights; ...

Re: thrust rod broken

I did have felt, but it came out a torn mess. I think some things may not have been greased properly when installed last time. I'll make sure to do that this time.
Thanks

thrust rod broken

thrust rod and piston.jpg Hey, I have a 1974 R90/6 with about 75,000 miles and recently the clutch stopped working. After disassembling it I discovered the thrust rod had broken (photo attached). A little history on the bike: in Dec. 2020, I replaced with transmission with a donor from a 1975 R90S....

heated grips suggestion

Hi, I have a 1974 R90/6 with 75,000 miles on it and I'm interested in adding heated grips. The bike has old ones that I've been told by a mechanic probably won't work well. There is no switch and he tested the wiring. My question is does anyone have a recommendation for a modern heated grip system t...

Re: Clutch cable slack

As is the case with many of my mechanical issues, this one was of my own doing. I simply hadn't adjusted the clutch cable properly. There's a surprising number of views out there on how to do that. I found one that works. Clutch and cable are doing their job well.
Thanks

Re: Clutch cable slack

I did reinstall the bearings and double check the assembly. However, it was running without the bearing for more than a month. I'm hoping there is no metal shavings in the transmission as I think that area is isolated from the transmission itself.
