Re: R90/6 large fuel tank

A gentleman on the Australian airhead Facebook group had recently expressed his disappointment with a fuel tank ordered from India for his R100. It looked good in pictures, but after a 3 month wait, he received it and it wouldn't fit, no space for the frame....! (let me know if you want the link to ...

Re: Airhead BMW touring case key source

I doubt my answer will provide you with a solution, but a few YouTube videos and a lock picking set from China, I have learned to pick the old easy locks found on an airhead. Once picked, I can remove the barrel and re-key the lock to the key on hand. I have successfully re-keyed the steering, gas c...

Re: Need paint code help

The local shop said they would do a match based on the existing paint but then he asked for the paint code. I'll call him this week to see what his plan would be. Hi phlatphish. I have the same exact bike here in AUS, imported from Pennsylvania a couple of years ago (VIN 6120302 manufactured 1st Oc...

Re: Stainless vs. Chrome Exhaust Pipes with Steel Mufflers

Can someone please advise on how to recognise the type of exhaust a new to me bike might have, when there isn't rust present?

Lead?

Do you know if these paints from the 70's include lead (unless you aren't concerned about it)?

R51/3 tank

.....I've always been partial to the original tank on my 1951 R51 but I understand why the guy would have changed it... I can ask from my mates in Greece how much original tanks go for over there, since there are thousands of R51/3s still being ridden. 1200€ sounds a bit too steep for a tank, but I ...

Try it by yourself

....... I'm going to try and impression a key myself. Which way does the key turn, left or right? Thanks in advance. The key turns to the left. With the wheel pointing almost to the right, you insert the key and turn to the left while you push in at the same time. When the lock assembly enters the s...

I use copper grease

I had purchased a few years back a tube of copper grease that said it can handle up to 1100 C. I've been applying it sparingly to the exhaust and spark plug threads since then and never had any issues during removal of said parts. I have not bought a special anti-seize product. I have also watched C...

Change fule lines

If the floats were sticking you'd have fuel flowing from the overflow hole on the bottom of the bowl, not upper on the fuel line. It's the same hole fuel runs when you tickle the carbs before startup. IMO it can't be the floats. Change the fuel lines. I had a similar issue on my 1972 R50/5 on May. T...
