Re: Very hard to start r60/2

I'd check to see if your valves are too tight. No compression if the valves are open, and no bang.

Re: 2024 on an R27

I can tell you that an R26 is not a motorcycle for traffic in 2024! But, it's one of those things like when you see a little old lady in a track suit with her running shoes, getting her exercise in. You know she's not fast, but she's definitely cool!

Re: Only modern tires from now on....

I have put Conti GO tires on my /5, and they make a world of difference. I couldn't find them for the /2 when last I looked...

Re: R27 Cold Start Nightmare

My .02, and my experience with my R26, is that these engines really vibrate, to the point that spark plugs have rotated loose, and that the exhaust collar rotated loose as well (I tend to under-tighten these things, probably not the best practice). I'd check all electrical connections, including plu...

For the Tapping of the bolt away from the points, am I correct that the bolt should be fully tightened?

R26 need to hold shift lever up to engage 2nd

Hello folks, I have a 1956 r26. The bike hasn’t run since probably 1980 or so. I recently got it running, and in order for it to properly engage second gear, I have to hold the shift lever up after shifting into second for a moment or two in order for the gear to engage, and rev the engine just a bi...

Re: What to do? 1968 R60/2

You lucky dog! If it was me, I’d do the bare minimum to get it up and running. Unless it was under water, it’s been my experience that even stuck engines don’t take much to get unstuck. Sometimes the oil and grease kind of gunk up and things get sticky, but a torch here and there may melt things and...

Re: R26 - new clutch, no difference…

Wait- did some more checking; I think the outer clutch plate is worn. I understand that it wears conically. So check out the old plate and new disc….

R26 - new clutch, no difference…

Hello folks, I put a new clutch disc in my 1956 r26. I was having an issue were the only year that seem to work was first gear, and it felt like I was a neutral and all of the other gears. I took the clutch anssembly apart, and the clutch was glazed and greasy. I put a new clutch disc in, cleaned up...

Re: R26 First ride - First gear is the only one that works...

I dug into the clutch today. I think I found the answer. Glazed and smooth clutch, with a touch of grease. The surfaces actually were relatively smooth for the backing plate and the pressure plate. They were a bit on the greasy side, but they cleaned up nicely with a little 220 and some elbow grease...
