latex

The original pads were injection molded latex. It was a very dense firm type of latex. That's important because that is why it lasted a long time and held up without collapsing like a cheap mattress. The difficulty in restoring the bench seats back to original look and feel is that there is nowhere ...

tire

I restored my 68 R69US a few years ago. I had an absolutely maddening bounce problem like yours. The front fork was completely redone several times. Still there. The tires were new and the front wheel was balanced although the tech had a little trouble getting it right. I forget exactly what prompte...

Nolan

When I went shopping for a new helmet for use with my R69US, I searched everywhere for a period looking helmet that was DOT that I also liked. Not easy. The Davida half shells aren't DOT. You have to go to 60's style "jet pilot" open face to get DOT approved. I went with a Nolan. There are ...

benches on US's

Realistically, how often will you have a passenger? Maybe that will tilt your thinking one way or the other. And is there really that much more for a pillion to sit on from the pillion pad versus the dual seat? It's not like you'll have a backrest on the dual seat, so the person can still just slide...

switch

I have a Granada red R69US, with the larger 24 liter "sport" tank. I sourced my paint from Holt but had the paint done locally by a master motorcycle painter as me and my bike are in CA. I too wondered what to do. I knew I needed passenger capacity, for years I liked the solo seat with fen...

tiny

Never seen these before. They're pretty minimal. How effective or useful are they? I looked at the site but didn't see a price, any info on price for the /2 version?

Everbest

This year I installed a new production Everbest on my 1968 R69US. I couldn't resist. My original began to leak way too much and I had to replace it with a Karcoma. I wondered about leakage, as in not if but when it would start. The originals had a cork gasket for the lever; I didn't know if these ne...

"switched" in '67

I think the "switch" was made to the later style in early/mid 67. My R69US made in the fall of '67 came with them. Possibly when commencing with US model production.

on purpose.

The 4 x 4 area was done on purpose to act as protection from the bare metal seat suspension scraping or scratching the rear fender paint if a heavy passenger and a big bump in the road caused it to bottom out. Presumably the paint wouldn't get damaged because that square of material would protect it.
