You cannot read continuity through any coil. You are reading through the coil windings to ground. The coil wire must be removed to read the point make/break point. I think the brass magneto mounting plate is solid brass
If not clean the top and bottom contact points with some fine steal wool

Note:
I always use some dielectric grease on all contact surfaces to reassemble
