Re: # matching paint colors

I believe that it depends upon your end goal. If your goal is to simply enjoy the bike without regard to future sale, then paint it whatever you like. If your goal is to maximize your investment, then I would not. If the original paint is presentable I would not repaint it, but if it’s pretty far go...

Re: '55 R69 on Ebay

Spied that earlier, but... has a later coffee can taillight and later front fender with the brace. Otherwise, a decent project.

Re: A.E.G's tank

Kurt, thanks, that's one of my go-to sites but I didn't see what I'm after. I also have a scan of a Hoske brochure but it's dated later, in the mid '60's. AEG had a '56 R69 that appears to sport the same tank that's on her '58-'59 bike. When she got the R69S she switched to a Heinrich tank. It would...

Re: A.E.G's tank

I realize it is an R69, my original post was plural, not R69S. Anyway, the RS II is 28 liter and the same style RS IV is 36 liter, neither with the tool box lid. I guess I'd have to see both side by side to make final judgement. I was thinking it didn't look large enough to be the 36 liter. Anyone w...

A.E.G's tank

Hey all,
I was looking at photos of Anke and her R69's and was wondering if you could verify the Hoske tank model on her 1956 and 1958-9 bikes. To me, it looks to be a Rennssport II (RS2). thoughts?

Re: License plate holder

David,
it should be the flat variety, not the stepped style of the Earle fork bikes and I don't know of any reproductions.

It should be centered. I’m guessing your hub to rim offset is incorrect. Should be about 6mm

Re: The Perfect Restoration

Every fastener and washer and it’s plating type(ATR, Phosphate or Chromium) are listed in the BMW parts manual(ersatztielle). Of course, non plated are listed without notation. There was discussion on this a couple years back, try the search function on fasteners.

Re: R51/3 - Muffler and Exhaust question

I just remembered, I initially installed the S-bend pipes on my R67/2 but then swapped them out to straight pipes based on some info I dug up. I also made a mistake regarding the center stand. The 230mm wide one forced the use of S-bend pipes after 526210. So, if you have 190mm, use straight pipes. ...
