Lettering for starter, horn etc has worn off handle bar area

Problem solved by purchasing decals from a graphics store. They went on well after cleaning surfaces with rubbing alcohol.
Looks like they will last a rainstorm. We will see. Bought two sets.

Lettering worn-off on handlebar controls

Does anyone have a suggestion for applying new lettering in the area of the starter and horn push buttoms? I guess these letters were silk screened on at the factory but they even didn't 37 years. Go figure. 1983 R100RT.

Lettering for starter, horn etc has worn off handle bar area

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to re-label this worn-off lettering on my R100rt?
I have thought about lettraset with a coat of varathane but I don't think it would survive the first good rainstorm.

Clutch slipping in 5th gear on acceleration

The spline was lubricated a few years ago. I don't think I over-greased it because clutch didn't slip for years afterward. This problem did clear up for me this season by putting some miles on the bike. Seems OK now. I can give it full throttle in 5th on long steep hill and she does not slip. Didn't...

Tips for placing rt80 on center stand

I was also having trouble getting my 1983 R100RT on the center stand. It seemed to getting harder and harder. The rear shocks were original and pretty much clapped out. I replaced them and couldn't believe the difference it made in getting my bike on the center stand. It is so easy now. I guess the ...

Clutch slipping in 5th gear on acceleration

First ride on the season. Noticed clutch slipping in high gear for first time ever. 1983 BMW R100RT. 90,000miles. Original clutch. Pulls well up through the gears but on hills in 5th gear, 60 mph and under acceleration, it revs and shows signs of slipping. It will do it in 4th gear too if I really b...

To lube or not to lube a new cable

I am going to change the clutch cable on my '83 R100RT. No problem with the cable, just 20 years old and 50K miles on it. Preventive maintenance. What is the advice from forum members on whether to lube the cable before installing it? If so, what lube do you recommend?
