Re: Life of brake lining

Just to add a couple of data points from my experience with my 1967 R69S, which I've owned since new. 1) I changed the brake linings at about 7K miles because the seal on my rear drive leaked and fouled them, and as I was at it, did the front linings, too, as the front brakes had developed a squeal....

Re: R90/6 Master Cylinder rebuild

I rebuilt the master cylinder on my 100S. All the new parts fit easily except for the front seal on the piston. Somewhere on the web I found that this could be installed without damaging the seal by using the plastic tip of a tube of caulk, the kind designed for caulking guns. You have to cut the ti...

Re: shipping BMW motorcycle to EU

Air Canada ships motorcycles from a limited number of airports in Canada to a number of destinations in Europe and one in Africa. Don't know where you're located in the US, but if you're within riding distance of one of their departure points, might be worth looking into. Assuming of course that the...

Re: looking for a leather tank cover for my sport tank.

You might get in touch with this guy, in Ukraine. He made a tank cover for my R100S with somewhat different dimensions than the covers on his website, which seem designed to best fit contemporary Urals. I got the cover within 10 days of ordering, and am very satisfied with the quality, especially fo...

Re: Bike for sale

You might look for comparables sold on bringatrailer.com. You might even put your bike up for auction there. Prices lately seem to me have gone crazy high there for /2s in top condition. Good luck.

Re: Looking for Mechanical Help in Indianapolis Area

If you're not already a member of the Airheads Beemer Club, joining will put you in touch with other airhead bike owners in your area. They should be able to recommend good mechanics. I've found that many of the members themselves can be very knowledgeable and helpful in maintaining our bikes. Here'...

Here's a chart from Bench Mark Works on the specs for your carbs, just so you can check what's on the bike now: http://www.benchmarkworks.com/articles/tech/carb2.html And here's how you can figure what you need to do to rejet your carbs to compensate for altitude: http://www.benchmarkworks.com/artic...

Vech, at Bench Mark Works, looks to have what you want: "46 62 5 096 195--$39.95--license plate bracket black 11x26cm R51/2-R69S." Better than paying $75 on Ebay for a chewed up, dinged up, used one.

Terry has done two of my speedos. Excellent work, very reasonable price, but turn around is three months at least. When does riding season (without ski outriggers) begin in Alaska? :) all best, Lincoln
