Bleed problems

This might sound a bit crazy, but I have seen master cylinders build up corrosion in the "non-active" part of the bore,to the point where a weak return spring can't overcome it and prevents the piston from returning all the way back to where it was before you started bleeding the system. W...

Wow, am I ever glad I didn't

Wow, am I ever glad I didn't give in to impatience just get this bike running. I sent the motor off to Mr. Brooks for a rebuild....when he got it apart, he discovered why all the "frankenparts" were there. At some time in the dim past, the poor thing grenade'd a piston. The jasper who work...

I just installed a new

I just installed a new Clearview shield on my '80 R100RT. Not sure how much of the stuff below applies to non-adjustable shields, but this was my experience. I did quite a bit of digging on the "how to", because I was concerned that if I got it wrong, I would introduce stress into the asse...

Back in another life, I was a packaging machinery mechanic for Maxwell House. When we were doing preventive maintenance, we rented a machine much like a sandblaster, but it used pelletized dry ice. It does a great job, and leaves zero residue. When I do the motor on my /2, I am planning to try and f...

Thanks for the info guys. Now I am rebuilding a hot rod?

Thanks for the info guys. I count 8 rounded fins. saw one place that said 8 fins, 500, 9 fins 600. First reference i have heard to 7. It has the R50/2 style airbox with a choke, so everything on the frame and bottom end looks 67-68 R50/2, top end looks to be R50S. guess I won't know till I get it a...

New member with a new acquisition

I just picked up what is essentially a "barn find", but was stored well. I had the pictures long enough to notice some conflicting details. Motor and Frame tag number match (and show to be to an R50/2), but it has two fin valve covers like an R50S, R69 or R69S, and also has the "bumpe...
