You could buy a B38-6A battery at Ebay or Amazon (acid battery with white body).

Or a gel or even an acid battery with same shape as original Varta or Bosch brand with 60´S from Vintage Beemer parts in CO, Mike Benoit it owner its a great guy,

How it works?? mine R60/2 has a soft and easy to handle clutch, but could be a good improvement for my R51/3.

Seems like your shift lever return spring is broken or wrong positioned on shift lever shaft.

Oil looks contaminated with water, but black dust could be metal..

I believe its good time for a full rebuilt.

Hold stack on a bench vise with soft jaws, taking care with bolt holes. You will need pin wrench (4mm pin diameter, 35 mm between centers, with 17 mm main pin diameter), remove the nut and press put bearing stack. yes, it can be changed without removing trans from bike.

Remove kickstarter wedge bolt, then you will need a drywall screw and carefully screw two on middle body and pull with a visegrip..take care to avoid screw it too long, that could damage gearbox body.
