Re: EME electronic ignition

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "requirement to use either the EME charging system or another replacement charging system". I've installed several of the crank driven electronic ignitions on airheads and there was no requirement to upgrade the charging system. The only thing you need to be aware o...

Re: Considering an R90S

I'm not sure about the availability of a "factory kit" but boxer2valve sells, what I believe is, an aftermarket 5 speed shift kit that fits the 74 R90S. There are several photos on the product page that shows the difference from the original. I too have a 74 and will sometimes find neutral between 4...

Re: Considering an R90S

Just be careful with a NOS front fender. I seem to recall the 74 was unique, based on the fender brace being different. The original 74 fender brace, again, "should" have a large square hole in it. I believe the 75/76 has a different brace and different fender.

Re: Considering an R90S

Hey Chris, I too have a 74 R90S. Mine was a low mileage bike - 21,000 Miles when I bought it, which had me do some research on the 74 frontend. As the mileage is so low on the one you're looking at you may want to confirm a few things. The instruments on the 74 "should" have the silver band around t...

Re: Fork Tube Oil Holes

Hi Kurt, The holes are below the slider seals and port oil through them as the dampner rod moves up and down. The person that said to face them towards each other used the same logic as you. The flex being fore and aft could cause cracking. I'll install them facing each other... assuming there isn't...

Fork Tube Oil Holes

This doesn't just apply to the R90S, but it's the bike I'm currently working on so I'll drop the question in here. I have seen (read) multiple descriptions on which way the fork oil ports should face. Some people say they should face towards the back. Others say they should face towards each other b...

Re: 1978 R80/7

As another option you could look at Euro Motoelectrics and their Digital Ignition System. Rather than connecting to the camshaft, it installs off the end of the crank, which gives more accurate timing. I've installed several of these on customer's bikes and they have all been happy. Brook Reams has ...

Re: R75/6 Tappet - Lifter Noise

Hi Kurt, I checked the pushrods in a set of "V" blocks and a dial indicator and they were straight. Looking down the pushrod tubes everything looks good, insofar as there is nothing protruding into the tubes that would rub on the pushrods. I was able to apply a slight lateral pressure on the pushrod...

Re: R75/6 Tappet - Lifter Noise

Hi Kurt,

Good idea on checking the pushrods to see if one, or both, are bent.

I'm assuming if the gasket was up against the pushrod I'd be able to see it protruding in with the pushrods removed. I'll have a check for that as well.

Thanks again for the help,
Scott.

Re: R75/6 Tappet - Lifter Noise

Hi Kurt,

That was what I was thinking too - pull the jug and see what's going on, but I was hoping someone may have an idea before I started to pull it apart.

I'll give it a couple of days to see if anyone else chimes in. If not, I'll head down that path.

Thanks,
Scott.
