Re: How much of the restoration will you do or did

One of the things that stands between restoring your own bike is knowledge, which is an easy fix: just learn new things. The other issue is usually an excuse about time and general economy, which is much harder to deal with. Everyone does a bit of a metric in their minds about how much something wil...

Re: How much of the restoration will you do or did

Did almost everything myself 10 years ago including paint, took everything down to the screw. Did the wiring, rebuilt everything. I sent the crank/rods to be checked and outfitted with new bearings. Built the wheels. Had the tires put on because I don't have a machine. Took the rear diff down to th...

Re: Wiring clips

Few other pics of original clips. The clutch cable tie is particularly brutal to the frame, especially when it gets rusty. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/YCL5ls.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/924/pARqZe.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/zk...

Re: poor compression

New pistons and rings, sent to millennium tech for fitting. Cross hatch was done by MT. When I received them, checked ring gap and installed. This couldn't be more by the book. I'll ride it a bit and see if things improve. I hear you, but the problem is this- you have to check the piston ring gap a...

Re: poor compression

Were the cylinders tapered correctly? I think the spec is around .02mm from top to bottom. The piston gap gets smaller at the top of the travel, like a zero tolerance, if the gap is measured at .02-.04mm"at the bottom of it's travel with the correct cylinder taper. Did you cross hatch it before...

Re: How do I make my solo saddle look new again ?

It's called rubber Bloom and it seems to happen when oils naturally locked in the rubber come out over time. It's limited to natural rubber. It actually helps the rubber with cracking and dry rot over time, it's always good to see. Bad things to see are cracks, shrinkage, and matte appearance. You c...

Re: Slinger service cost

My R69 is at Max BMW in Connecticut for a few things and I inquired about the price of slinger service. They quoted me $4000 - $9600, depending on what they found once they opened her up. In other words, $4000 if everything else was fine and slinger just needed cleaning . . . . Any thoughts on this...

Re: Battery Drain

I just replaced my 6V standard battery with this sealed lead model: https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/slaa6=14t2 It's a little smaller than a standard battery but it's awesome. It holds a charge well without a tender and it charges more easily as well. No more dribbling problems. I can't ...

Re: Is this a mint original?

Kaplan isn't a bad guy from what I hear, he has a lot of bikes going through that outfit and it's usually pretty well represented. Clearly this one has got some serious issues in terms of originality. It looks like some pretty cheap paint too. Maybe $7500-8500 and if it had a good proof the slingers...
