Re: Sparkplug issue

When it is running, look closely at where the head and cylinder meet. you could also have a blown head gasket on that side, if suddenly this fouling occurred. If you see ANY bubbles coming out between the head and cylinder, you have lost a head gasket.

Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

While in theory, the kick start seal can be replaced without tearing the gearbox down, but it is just about impossible when the transmission is in the bike, due to lack of space. And the dangers are, After you remove the kick start lever, if you blindly poke screwdrivers along the sides of the kick ...

Re: /2 Clutch versions

The difference is that the plate in the upper photo is a non spring center bonded clutch. The riveted one in the lower photo is a spring center riveted clutch. The spring center clutch is by far the better clutch. If you look at the outer edge, you will see that the spring steel plate, between the f...

Re: Crankshaft questions a Ulis

When I built engines for customers, (and in ALL of my personal machines) I placed a LARGE rare earth, POWERFUL nickel plated magnet in the steel pan. They stick to the steel pan, and will magnetize a large area surrounding the magnet. There is no fear or possibility of the magnet to move, I promise....

Re: R60/2 best place to source a centrifugal advance unit

I think this whole differential timing mumbo jumbo is for the most part, a great big nothing burger. I strongly disagree. I order to make the engine run perfectly with little or NO vibration, you must have 3 degrees or less differential timing. If you have a lot more, you will wonder why you cannot...

Re: R26 and R27 transmission removal question

Grant,

In order to leave the engine in place and remove the transmission, you will have to remove the rear fender, rear wheel, the battery box and air box, and the swing arm.

Those individual components weigh a lot less each than the engine and trans!

Re: R26 Schorsch Meier seat placement

The gasket you speak of is 46 54 5 096 109 It does not show it used between the shock tower flanges and the fender, however. If you are going to install a bench seat, expect the paint to get scraped off on both sides of the fender when you put it on. The only way to avoid this, is to remove the back...

Re: Engine slows

Another possibility is that when the clutch is squeezed, the pressure is pushing the crankshaft forward. Obviously, that is not good. To check, pull the front cover, and then start the bike, and let it warm up. Then shut it down, and place a fingertip on the generator armature and the generator fiel...
