Re: Need advice on what direction to take my R 50

It's up to you. If you like it and are keeping the bike long term, then do a patina restoration, however if you decide to sell it one day,a shiny, fully restored example will fetch more money. It is not full original at this point so might as well make it shiny. I prefer shiny bikes, but everybody is di...

Re: R69S Magneto problem

Disassemble complete mag body and clean all contact surfaces to get a good ground throughout. If you have everything correct, these mag systems are practically faultless other than coils.

Re: R69S Dover White on BAT

Right on Vintage Jim! I am glad you can see the truth and humor in my statement.  That bike is a GEM. I agree I would completely disassemble it and inspect/rebuild for riding, as a collector static display piece, no need of course. If it was in Hawaii I would easily give 20K for that.

Re: 1967 R69S restoration

Slightly loosen gas cap and see if bogging improves. If you can,do a "plug chop" where as soon as it bogs, pull in cluthc and kill ignition and pull over and look at the spark plug. If it is dark, then lower jet needle,if it looks lean, raise needle 1-2 notches, and possibly get a bigger main jet or r...

Re: 1967 R69S rough running between 40 - 55mph

I was going to say the same, everything else being "right",play with the needle position. Bringing the needle "up" will enrichen it and bring the main jet earlier. If it gets "worse" then go "down" on the needle. Make sure carb flanges are flat.

Re: gear oil?

I am using the Lucas 85-90W non synthetic gear oil in my 4 bikes and 2 vintage aircooled VW's. It has given noticeably better shifting in all my vehicles.

Re: New member

Congratulations and welcome! There are many ways to approach getting this project back on the road....if you want to have it on the road quickly, I recommend removing motor and trans,SEND THEM OUT to experienced, reliable and qualified BMW mechanics/restorers,and do the rest of the bike yourself,this...

Re: 62 R69S mechanical rebuild

Looks great....congratulations on the completion of the rebuild, and may it give you with many miles and many smiles :D Very cool you kept it in "US spec". That is actually more distinctive and rare to see them this way, most come into possession like that, and quickly get the Euro seat and bars ( I ...
