I've heard it said many times

I've heard it said many times that a full crankcase of any oil is a lot better than an empty crankcase of the best oil. I used that rerefined stuff in the 2 gal cans too, Sappharie I think, in my 1963 Chevy Nova six, but only after it got so bad that I had to add oil twice a day. That car was all do...

Interesting. One question I

Interesting. One question I have is in regard to multi-viscosity oils. As I understand it, multi-vis oils start out as straight weight oils that have been blended with certail additaves that make them behave like lighter or heavier oils depending on temperature. What I want to know is this: How much...

Kurt: I don't want to start

Kurt: I don't want to start another oil thread here, but I'd be interested in what you're testing for and the testing methods.

Red Kote

I've used Red Kote on several tanks with good results. There's a radiator shop nearby that will clean and coat the tank very reasonably. After painting never had a problem.

New Standard Tank

Brand new from S. Meyer, all painted and stripped - 630 Euros - $814, plus freight. No cap, pads, tool box door or petcock. You'd be surprised how close you can come to that figure buying and restoring a used tank.

Thanks! I had opportunity to

Thanks! I had opportunity to speak with Chris Betjemann at Barrington Motor Works in NH (the /2 manual guy) yesterday and put the question to him. As we already know, R60 cylinders are one cooling fin longer than an R50 cylinder and therefore need longer pushrod tubes and intake tubes. Chris says th...

Under tank feul line

S meyer usually lists a guick disconnect coupling for that section of fuel line. I just went to their website to send the specific link, but it doesn't seem to be there at the moment, but they say that they will be adding more items next month. I think it is about $15.

Exhaust Pipes

Here's a question for y'all: Is there a difference between the header pipes for an R60/2 and an R50/2? I always thought that they were the same but today I noticed that Max BMW parts fiche and Benchmark works use different part numbers for the R50 & R60, but S. Meyer and Epco list the same pipe ...

Seat with Hoske tank

It seems like your options are limited here. You could raise the seat hieght with a spacer on the frame under the seat mount, but you'd probably need too much for that to be pratical. You could stiffen the seat suspension with fabricated helper springs or add a rubber stop to the fender where the se...

US Models

I remember having a conversation several years ago with two older and very experienced BMW motorcycle guys who maintained that 'US' in BMW models did not stand for United States, but rather for 'Universal Strut', but I don't remember anything about which countries they were available in. Any comment...
