congrats I have a 59 the most reliable piece of machinery I have.. dump those handle bars though they are an assault to the eyes.. low bars really complete the out fit.

1959 R50 rebore??

Way past my 2nd oversize on R50 (2.75+/_ ) R60 is 2.80 plan to go to standard R60 pistons with same R50 head as one option. Anyone see a problem other then offending the BMW gods? cheers Frank }:)

ss axil etc. not all equal

From my old machine shop experiance there are least for or five types of SS round bar available. The nomenclature escapes me but usage determines type used...and not all stainless is non magnetic . Hydraulic piston shafts differ from pumpshafts or where conditions might attack mild steel for instanc...

gearbox oil

Thanks Darryl, box was rebuit in early eighties is smooth quite and oil drains clean no metal on drainplug. Since nature of seals is unknown to me plus bike will see limited use from now on I should probably stick to factory recomendations. It has worked all these years...thanks everyone for input.....

gearbox oil

Thanks Krurt I ran into same recomendation also stressing synthetic oil to prolong bearing life. (google "BMW R50/2 gearbox" to find extensive discription by duane ausherman) Still not sure what to do either. I always used engine oil in gearbox as per book but thought modern tech. might have come up...
