Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

While in theory, the kick start seal can be replaced without tearing the gearbox down, but it is just about impossible when the transmission is in the bike, due to lack of space. And the dangers are, After you remove the kick start lever, if you blindly poke screwdrivers along the sides of the kick...

Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

All I remember is that I filled oil up to the level of the cap, until I saw it in the opening.
AFAK - these are also the instructions that appear in the workshop manual.

Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

I went to the motorcycle and checked carefully with a flashlight: all the oil came out of the gearbox, that is empty now. Everything happened suddenly and at once. The last time I drove about 60 miles it was a pretty cold day and all was fine with no oil loss. This time it was already warmer (about ...

Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

Of course, there is no connection between the two oil fields. I was not focused.
Thanks, I'll check the speedo cable connector.

Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

I came back from riding about 60 miles and when I parked the bike I saw after ca. 15 minutes that there is a leak from there. 1. Do I have to take the engine/gearbox out of the motorcycle to replace the oil seal there? Or can the oil seal be replaced by disassembling the kickstarter lever, the batte...

Re: modern equivalent oils/greases

Excellent idea. I think that the most critical issue in our motorcycles is the engine oil. Here in my country for example, it is almost impossible to find good old 40 oil for these old engines. Only one place keeps it in stock (Castrol Classic Green). But, it is very expensive and there is no guaran...

Help with technical drawing

Does anyone happen to have a technical drawing of a wheel hub (half hub type) on a R51/3 ?
I'm machining my own and would like to get the exact measurements of the inner splines.

Its best to just to tape the outside of the lens down and use some silicon gasket sealant on the inside of the lens, let it dry and then remove the tape on the top side
This.

Re: R51/3 clutch adjustment screw

Right. Just note that a flat one is requiered there.
The handlebars levers have the same one.
If you don't find a flat one - take a regular one with a std. M6 bolt and sand it down. The bolt will be used to clean the nut's thread after sanding.

Re: Abracadabra: White rubber disk on drive shaft bell disappeared

I see what you mean, but having owned a BSA M20 for decades, this is where I laugh, whereas with the BSA I cried. Theoretically, if someone were to travel the roads I was on with the BSA dragging a huge magnet behind him, there is a high chance that he could assemble half a motorcycle from the parts...
