Best Ride in the USA

Hi Peter In my opinion the best vintage BMW event is the meet hosted by BenchMarkWorks in Sturgis, Mississippi in April. There are some pictures of past meets there posted on their website. For the East Coast the ride up the Natchez Trace to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive is pretty nice bu...

Fair price for 1967 R69S?

Yeah, He's referring to the bike pictured initially. Mine is oil tight and runs well. I'm not planning on any deep restoration for it. I have enough projects right now. This one will get a little bit of tidying up and cad plating of the original hardware. I'm going to install a nice Avonaire fairing...

Fair price for 1967 R69S?

Just another data point for some perspective- Here are some pictures of a bike I bought around 4 or 5 weeks ago. It's a 1960 R69 with 24,000 miles that is complete, running and riding. It needed to have the carbs and the front brake adjusted. The paint is original and it came with a complete set of ...

Rear drive - 32/11

Yes, the taller gears are exactly what I want. I'm setting this bike up with an Avonaire fairing for long distance riding. Our speed limit here is 75 mph so I can make good use of the long legs

Astounding prices these days

All the more reason to do some reading, buy some tools and learn to work on the things yourself. It's hardly rocket science and there are a large number of folks with extensive experience who enthusiastically provide support. I could never afford to own my bikes if I had to pay others to do the work...

pinstriper recommendation

I think there are a few pictures of Bruce Deveau doing the tank of my 1952 R67/2 here http://new.photos.yahoo.com/darbone85737/album/576460762318052789 I gave the tank to Chris Betjemann at the BenchMarkWorks event in 2006 and picked it up at his shop later that spring. The work is flawless- Bruce e...

Rear drive - 32/11

Yes, they are tall gears. I've been riding the bike around town but haven't been on the highway yet as I need to replace the rear seal. I had an R50 with sidecar gearing so the long legs on this one feels pretty nice. Kinda like overdrive

Rear drive - 32/11

Thanks for the help. Based upon your reply and that of others off the list I do believe the drive is from a same-year R60. I took the bike out for a nice ride today. It's sunny, high 80's and just a super day for a ride. The bike runs and rides extremely well. I've decided to just drive it for now. ...
