Re: ‘57 R50 Question

I love and appreciate all the feedback and shared experiences. It’s very helpful. I’ll probably go look at the bike this Friday, but still unsure. The more past forum topics I read, the more I realize my abilities to work on and pay for ongoing troubleshooting might not be where I want to be at the ...

Re: ‘57 R50 Question

Thanks Charlie, I like to hear success stories like that. (Your story too, CWRoady - although not the outcome I'm sure you hoped for.) Jimkav - it does look like that. The current owner (son) said his dad put on a different front fork to increase clearance. The original one comes with this bike - in...

Re: ‘57 R50 Question

Thanks Kurt. I’d have no trouble disassembling and seeking expertise for the internals. I’ve seen unrestored “riders” from $8500 to restored bikes around $13k. Just here to gather some expert opinions while trying to decide the potential of saving money by taking on a mystery project (Vegas odds?!),...

Re: ‘57 R50 Question

Yikes, I don’t think I’m ready for a potential “$10k in two years” project. Thanks for the replies, that’s what I’m looking to hear. I’d have to buy the bike first before getting to know exactly what’s wrong or what parts she’ll need. Im sure many of you have found bikes like this and can generalize...

Re: ‘57 R50 Question

Sorry, photos attached again. Thanks for the immediate input already. That’s what I’m looking for. I’m not a bike mechanic, but I’m able to do a lot. Videos, manuals carry the rest. I’m wondering what it’ll take to get on the road first. (ex: “ I had a bike like that and I spent $_____. my first 12 ...

‘57 R50 Question

Hey guys, first time post and looking for some advice. This local bike came up for sale and I’m looking for some advice on costs to get it running solid, and later restoration. The specs on the bike is that the owners dad bought it new. Ran it hard, did endurance runs including extra snorkel exhaust...
