Re: R69 no spark

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has given advice to me. Your not going to believe it, turns out the 'new' condenser I fitted was intermittently going open circuit, then shorting to earth. We now have a spark!! What a relief

Re: R69 no spark

I can see your wire from the condenser connecting to the top of the breaker points, but where does the orange( might be brown) wire that is connected to the primary(left side of coil viewed from the front) go to? Mine is connected with condenser wire on the top of the breaker points.

Re: R69 no spark

A question on the Emerald Island coils- the additional earth (ground connection ). I have connected this to the right side(viewed from front ) coil retaining screw. Is this ok, or should it be elsewhere?

Re: R69 no spark

To have no spark at all, as if the ignition switch was in off position, makes me think I am grounding to earth somewhere other than the connection 2 wire from the ignition switch, as I have disconnected the wire from the coil. Is there anywhere else that might create a path to ground out the ignitio...

Re: R69 no spark

Yes, the points are opening and closing at the right time, that is- I assume they should open near the S mark?

Re: R69 no spark

I seem to be getting nowhere fast! Removed the magneto body, used the removal tool to take the revolving magneto magnet off. cleaned up everything( not much to clean actually- it all looked ok). Set-up the magneto with the S in the viewing window, re-fitted the rotating magnet( which retains strong ...

Re: R69 no spark

Vech those are great words of wisdom. I purchased an aftermarket material/shellac type coil to try and keep it looking authentic- I think now that may have been a mistake. I have ordered from Motorworks one of the type you describe with the additional earth connection. I have a rotor removal tool al...

Re: R69 no spark

I'm not sure I've seen a way to test the strength of the magneto "magnet". I seem to recall reading something about seeing if the rotor can pick up a wrench or something on the bench. Have you read through Doug Rinckes booklet online? Go to the knowledge base link at the top and type &quo...

Re: R69 no spark

I replaced the coil with an older style material type. I have spoken to a chap here in the UK who has suggested that may be at fault, as when I kick the engine I read about 6 volts hitting the primary winding of the coil(Which I am told is about right), but I also only get this voltage on the second...
