Re: changing manual trasmission fluid

for the 45 years I have ridden my 1958 R69, i use 40w VR1 from front to back. Still smooth with minor leaks. I clean once a year for seepage stains. Shifts smooth.

Re: Power loss trouble shooting?

You are in luck with having the simplest, easy to work on carbs in the universe. An oddity that caused me confusion last year is that there is a steal liner where the needle sets into the main jet oriface (sp). Remove the air intakes and look into the carbs. The left and right should look the same. ...

Re: 1969 R69S Advice to a new comer

a little marvel mystery to loosen the rings, clean the points, check for spark, clean the the carbs.
Clean the oil pan.
Your should be able to tell if it has compression, but a test would be good.
Then
Start it up and ride a few miles.

Re: Offset Footrests on 1967 R60/2

:D Normal. In fact after 40 years of riding like that I tend to ride with the left side of my body further forward on any motorcycle I ride.
One reason for the offset is the side kick start clearance.

Daily ride replacement, V7

A few years ago I started to feel guilty about putting miles on my R69. I bought an r75/5 hoping it had some of the same charm, but was sorely disappointed. Then I spent a year reading and watching video about moto guzzi. Then bought a guzzi California 1100. good bike for 2 and 4 lane riding. Then I...

Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

68k on my R69. Same performance, compression, and sound as when I bought it in 1977 with 12k on the odo. Never an issue, with the the exception of the rivets giving way on the clutch plate. Back in the 70s and 80s every one was predicting doom from unleaded gas eating the valves and seats. I ignored...

Re: Best handlebars for BMW

I have never had a problem spreading the risers for US high bars. Very soft metal. So soft that over the years the clamping area stretches, requiring shimming or filing the bolt area. US bars are much better for distance riding. You can still bend your elbows and crouch as much as you want.

Re: Aftermarket Windshield

Vetter is pretty hefty of an R60/2 Wixom handle bar fairing works well. I rode thousands of miles in relative comfort. And they look good. I did add about a 3" panel on the bottom to stop air flow from below. But even without the 3" it was still better than any other handlebar windshield f...

my r69 was born in January of 1958. coffee can and air cleaner with choke like the one on duane's site.

I bought mine in 1978, 3rd owner, and believe everything is original.
