Re: Power loss trouble shooting?

It is possible that the idle jet is blocked on the right carb--pull it and give it a blast of carb cleaner spray?

Re: Idle jet

Take a spare flat blade screwdriver and grind/shape to provide best fit (especially the blade tip fit to the jet), and remove each jet (and replace with new ones). IMO, trying to drill out (or use music wire) to clear the jet is asking for problems. The soft brass will definitely be scored by either...

Re: Reserve on 6 gallon sport tank?

The actual miles difference also depends on if a PO has messed with the petcock--the amount of reserve gas available is directly related to the difference in height between the main feed 'straw' and the reserve feed 'straw' on the gas side of the petcock. I've seen screens removed, broken (shorter) ...

Re: Color for Pin Stripe

Per http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/pinstripes/701-750.htm

Scheme Code......Colour............Pin Stripe Outer.........Pin Stripe Inner
709..................Avus Black.......White 101................White 101

Pretty sure the 'White 101' is a Glasurit paint.

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

I think it's operating as intended. It might improve (i.e the margins at which the light comes on/goes off) as the cleaned brushes 'seat in' more finely to the newly polished/cleaned rotor. As I read your description, it is brightest at lowest idle, and as you rev up to 1500rpm it gets progressively...

Re: What options for identifying a loud tic in left cylinder

A bent/bowed push rod can cause an audible tic. Maybe back off the rocker arm adjustments (let the pushrod free float) and spin one with your fingertips to check for out-of-round or a rough spot? If you go all the way to pulling them out, roll them on a glass plate or other known flat surface. Good ...

Re: /2 running rough at higher speed

If your fuel level is low, bikes can sometimes bog at high speeds, as the gas flow can't keep up with the demand. Gravity is all you've got to work with, so as head pressure in the tank goes down (very little gas in the tank), so does the flow to the carbs.

Fill up the tank and try it again?

Re: Carb slide /2

Doesn't necessarily look that unusual to me--that's the side exposed to the intake valve, and they get that kind of coloring over time, especially if you are occasionally getting backfires. Does the slide actually stick in the bore, or can you feel a specific rough spot? (Don't try it dry--splash so...

Re: Compression every other kick???? Schleicher Cam question.

I know I always have to remove/clean the idle jets several times in getting an old bike going again (sometimes even after just sitting for a few weeks). Maybe the quick ride got some sediment moving around? Granted your aggravation/frustration index is likely pretty high right now, but the fact that...
