Any Hawaii "Airheads"here?

Thomas - - Most of the guys on the Boxerworks Forum seem to have later model airheads but some have /2's and older. In addition to the VBMWO site, another great resource is the /2 Yahoo Group. From what I can see, that forum is exclusively /2 and some of the greatest /2 minds in the country like Cra...

Any Hawaii "Airheads"here?

Thomas - - Welcome to the world of airheads and Airheads. In answer to your question, try posting on the Boxerworks Forum. There are one or two people there who regularly post from Hawaii...

R27 Battery

He sells a gell for the twin. I've gotten one from him in the past. Didn't see one listed for an R27, though. I'll call him up...

Avon M26 tires

I had looked into these tires when I was going through my R27 but by the time I located my Weinmann alloys, cleaned them up, and installed stainless spokes I decided to bite the bullet and just get the correct size and period-look tires from Vech. He sells 3.25-18 Heidenaus that look just "righ...

What do you use to make your engine bright

This question has come up before. I've used WD-40 with a plastic "scrubby" and gotten good results. The best results I've ever gotten, however, were with a product called "Alumabrite" and a scrubby. You cut it about 50/50 with water; work it in from the top down; flush off with w...

Cycle Oil Analysis

My own two cents on the oil analysis question is that for purposes of supplying information about the condition of an engine on a vintage bike, it comes under the category of "nice to know" but not essential. If the machine runs well, has good compression, doesn't smoke, doesn't use oil ex...

What do you use to make your engine bright?

S100 engine cleaner does a pretty good job at generally brightening things up. For really dis-colored, stained, and grungy engine cases, I've used a product called Aluma-Brite. You cut it with water and scrub it on with a plastic Tuffy-Pad or the like. Work from the top down and then flush it off wi...

Cross Country Trip

Darryl - - Thanks for the riding tips. They sound great. I'll work the route out from Portland to San Francisco when I'm in Portland.

I plan to arrive in Pacifica, CA on 5/23 and leave for Denver on 5/26. Wish I had more time for a visit but I appreciate the offer.

Astounding prices these days

Interesting discussion both from the domestic restoration standpoint as well as the international monetary viewpoint. Regarding the latter, it may not be just the European market having an influence but the Asian/Japanese as well. I've seen instances of /2's bought by Japanese collectors in the U.S....

New poster, a few questions

Forgot something. When you wash the bike, there will probably be places where the car soap doesn't cut it, like wheels, hubs, axles, etc. Get some Simple Green, cut it in half with water, and spray it on the parts. Then clean the parts with an old paintbrush and flush them off with water.
