Re: 73 R75/5 tires

If it were me, I'd be sure and search for inch-sized tires. That was spec'd to the bike and while metric sizes will work, they actually change the geometry and even lower the bike to the ground which can make side stand functioning problematic. I'm running Michelin Pilot Activs on my /7. Some point ...

Re: Newbie Mirror and Throttle Question

As for the mirrors, I would swap them left to right. Your eyesight is over the bars to the mirror, and the reflection is to the rear but under the bars. Those hand grips are aftermarket. Not sure you can just cut a hole in the end of the grip. Others will know, but I think the throttle tube must be ...

Re: 1969 R69S US Crank Balancer (damper)

I understand that the neoprene ring gave up the ghost with earlier designs. Newer ones are much better. I bought a new ring from Vech and never had any issues for nearly 10K miles. This past year or so, I was chasing a vibration and one of the first things recommended was to remove the balancer whic...

Re: New to BMW's

Welcome to the forum! Long time rider indeed! Quite the history on bikes. Nice survivor 1973 R75/5...it isn't a 1963 model. Yours appears to be what they call a Short Wheel Base bike...mid model year 1973, so maybe in the spring of 1973, they lengthened the swing arm by around 50mm. Duane Ausherman'...

Re: Proper horn mounting for R 50 S with tach drive

The picture of the R50S in this brochure doesn't suggest that the horn was mounted to the side. You have good skills on the BMW database so you might be able to find something more there.

Re: New Memeber Intro

Welcome to the forum, Sawyer! As a start for searching, use the search box in the upper right and type in Steib S501. I found quite a few other discussions. Also, click on Knowledge Base, then Library. In the left hand search box, pull down the arrow and click on Steib. You'll find a number of items...

Re: Cam Mounted Tach Issue

I haven't done it, so not sure this will help. Duane has some pages about the tach on his site: https://w6rec.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/other-tachometer-installation.pdf https://w6rec.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/other-tachometer-update.pdf https://w6rec.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Pre-197...

No direct experience, but Rider's Warehouse usually has well thought-out equipment.

Re: Engine block interchangeability R60/2 R69S

Looks like I was too slow typing! Welcome to the forum, Stefan! I checked the parts lists at Salis BMW and it appears that the post 1960 cases are the same as they have the same part number. Check this link: https://www.bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/parts/all-parts/engine-housing/ You might check the or...

Also check the taper match between flywheel and crank.
