Re: I need sympathy

Darn! Will be interesting to see what else you find. Bronze or light colored metal suggests to me the babbitt material associated with the crankshaft main bearings. The shredded metal looks unfamiliar but as mentioned, looks like something has peeled away.

Re: Leaking carburators

Are the floats rising up to seal the flow of fuel in the bowl? Could the floats be defective?

Re: I need sympathy

Sorry to hear that. What bike is this? R9? R90/6? Anyway, I wouldn't run all the negative things through my mind just yet. Maybe begin thinking of a plan of attack, doing the easy and obvious things first. Then when you get the bike back, you're ready to go!

Re: R 26 clutch / starter interface

Doesn't sound right. I know on both of my vintage bikes, sometimes the kicker will lock up...I kind of have to be ready for it and not really jump all over the kicker. When that happens, I pull the clutch hand lever in and use the kicker to reposition things inside the transmission. But I don't have...

Just google "Scotties Workshop". He's a contributor here on the forum. Or go to the Knowledge Base in the upper right and then to Useful Links. Scottie's info is on Page 8.

Re: R60/2 Question on rocker arm movement.

Will have to wait for your report. The issue with the butterheads was the chemical process in making the aluminum heads that resulted in the softness. I don't think the repairs that were done to refurb your head addressed the base issue...if indeed you have butterheads. The fix is to find a set of L...

Dave -

That's why I asked the question. Here's Duane's discussion of butterheads:

They shouldn't be loosening up. What year is the R60/2?

Re: First breakdown.. had to get towed.

Easy enough to swap back if the bike fails again. Change one thing and then you'll have something to work with.

I think condensers can be hit or miss. I thought I had some info on aftermarket condensers...what I have are items for a /2 and the suggestion was one for a 1973 Ford Torino.
