Re: /2 or not /2?

Here's Duane Ausherman's thoughts: https://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/slash.htm The "/2" came about when enough changes were made to the 1955-1960 era bikes they decided to give it the 2nd designation. There was much precedent to doing that going way back...although they did call the older bikes ...

Re: 1973 R75/5 - electrical issues?

Replace the fuse with a large size DC volt bulb...maybe 15 watts...not real sure what would work. That way the light lights instead of the fuse blowing. Then start taking things out of the circuit until the light goes out.

Re: Fluids

I forget...is this a new to you bike? How many miles? Past maintenance? If the first time for you, I'd clean the plug up and add your favorite gear oil and recheck at the next fluid change.

Re: 1974 R60/6 oil filter

I don't think the D has any special designation. As for the inner bolt torque, Snowbum mentions 15 ft-lbs, but also says that's too high for him. It's a steel bolt into the steel pipe, so probably little danger in stripping. I usually feel what something is like coming off...then try and repeat that...

Re: 1974 R60/6 oil filter

I've not actually done a filter change on a /6, but there should be a rubber ring on the far end of the filter. It looks like there is something round and black deep inside the canister area...can you use a coat hanger or something and hook that...see if it comes out.

Re: Where to get gas tank lining redone

James, I would line it. Eventually the rust will show. At least now there's little to no prep before you seal it. My R25/2 was raw steel and I dragged my heels and it got away from me. Now I'm facing derusting and lining. YMMV!

Re: first wiring question

I could be wrong but a green wire with stripe means the power on that line will be switchable. Seems that the dimmer switch is the switch part of the circuit.

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

I think I remember from Roland Slabon's book is that either was "correct". BMW archives can provide on a bike from their records but usually it just says "with a bench seat" or "with a solo seat"...nothing specific as to who made the seat.
