Re: first wiring question

I could be wrong but a green wire with stripe means the power on that line will be switchable. Seems that the dimmer switch is the switch part of the circuit.

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

I think I remember from Roland Slabon's book is that either was "correct". BMW archives can provide on a bike from their records but usually it just says "with a bench seat" or "with a solo seat"...nothing specific as to who made the seat.

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

The two seats were offered for all BMWs after the war. BMW made sure there were multiple suppliers during production to ensure they had the parts for the bikes going out the door. That said, my limited experience is that Denfeld was seen more during the "/2" era but the Pagusa seemed to be...

Re: 1973 R75/5 - electrical issues?

On these bikes, the coils have two sets of windings, primary and secondary. The primary is only a few ohms, say 1.0 to 1.5. The secondary ohms is quite high, generally around 5K ohms. Rule of thumb that the ohms from the left spark plug cap to the right spark plug cap is 20K ohms. That's about 5K fo...

Re: R27 Cold Start Nightmare

Could it be electrical? The R27 is a battery-coil bike, meaning it's just like your older car or say a 1971 R75/5. The coil must be good, the connections must be good, and the battery must be good. Maybe you have some corrosion in the electrical circuit.

Re: Doing push rod tube seals-need advice

Usually a non-hardening sealer is used like Permatex Ultra Gray, Yamabond, or Hylomar. Be careful to not get sealant around the oil outlets on the top bolts. Snowbum covers all this.

Re: Doing push rod tube seals-need advice

As for the pushrod tubes, put a flat edge across the base of the cylinder. The straight edge should just touch the ring on the pushrod tube.

Re: R51/3 air cleaner element

Chuck do you have more specifics on making this change? Seems like I've seen something like this. What would concern me is how a foam filter can flow the same amount of air that the wire mesh did. I wonder if foam chokes off and starves the engine...maybe makes it run richer requiring carb adjustmen...
