What could I expect to pay...???

From my experience with these engines, once you strip them down you will find a lot of work to do especially if you want to build a good engine. I would budget for new gaskets, new slingers ( yes you can clean & reuse them but the rear always gets battered, new slinger screws, new bearings throu...

New owner of R50

Hi Tom, Firstly congratulations on buying the bike. Now what to look for, this is part of the list I normally give to anyone looking to buy a pre69 BMW. 1. The engine in your bike has 2 oil slingers at either side of the crank. These have lips at their circumference that collect any rubbish / dirt w...

R62 Project: The Beginning

Darryl, My racer was the star of the "light & simple" article in the Bulletin 2 issues ago. The article is in 2 parts as I wrote up progress to Jan 05, lots more work has now been completed & I've written most of part 2. At the moment I'm looking for carbs, I'm not prepared to pay ...

R62 Project: The Beginning

Darryl, Good story, I trust you'll be writing an article for the Bulletin on this ? I know how you feel with having more than one live project & also trying to balance the priorities of rebuilding BMWs against home life & work ! My push this year is to assemble the engine & gearbox of my...

FYI-Visiting Germany

Despite living within a day's ride of Germany I just find it easier & quicker to order parts via the internet or by fax & telephone call. For ease of use Mark Huggett's site www.bmwbike.com is excellent. Peter PS If necessary my local modern BMW dealer ( cars & bikes ) can also get me ne...

Stainless Steel Exhaust

R69S silencers in Stainless steel are available from a company called Armours in Bournemouth, England. They are correct copies of the original silencers complete with the correct dimples. I have a pair on my 69S. They are from memory £ 260 sterling. Armours advertise in Classic Bike Magazine which I...

New to Old.....

Hi I suggest you keep your eye on the vintage bike ads in the IBMWR http://www.ibmwr.org this will give you some idea of US bike values. My experience is UK based. Obviously the desireability of any particular model will determine it's starting value. My own preference is for sports bikes, so R68, R...

New to Old.....

Don't expect to make money, or buy into an "investment". (Whether you need to use these lines on your wife may be a different matter. ;-) ) Pretty much nobody who sets a bike up for themselves will get their money back if they sell it right away. It could take years for the market to catc...
