Re: 'Firsts" For BMW With the Introduction of the R90S Model

Mac,

Your knowledge and contributions to forums like this are well appreciated. When I see a post from you, I consider it definitive. Really, you should consider publishing a book. The subtle level of detail in documenting differences is second to none.

You have a fan.

Re: Remove Windscreen to Clean

Thanks Vech! I realize this might be the only option if I want to regularly clean the screen. Ideally, a version of your screw with a strong nylon- or plastic-type, black finish would be ideal.

Remove Windscreen to Clean

On my newly acquired 1975 R90S, I see that the windscreen in fastened using plastic rivets from the factory. Thinking I could simply remove the windscreen to do some detailing, I am now faced with what appears to be a very big exercise. Looks like you have to drill out the rivets to take the windscr...

Re: R90S Clock

Is there a conversion shop somewhere that can take the white-faced clock and upgrade it to quartz innards for reliable running?

Licence Plate Holder

I'm still kind of new to the R90S and am noticing a few things. For example, my licence plate holes (Ontario) don't line up with the pre-drilled holes on the R90S. I am loathe to drill holes on the bike or on the plate which leads me to ask if there is an adapter that can be used to mount my plate. ...

Re: R90S Clock

I had to push the knob in whilst turning it to set the clock. It was very awkward to do so. I can press the knob in and it comes back out. It won't stay in when pressed ... it pops right out when I take my finger off. Is it supposed to stay in when depressed?

Re: R90S Clock

Just rode my newly acquired 1975 R90S home from the shop and got it in the my garage! However, after I set the clock to the correct time, I noticed the second hand stopped working, leaving the time stuck at where I set it. The clock worked prior to this ... in the shop and when I got it home. It was...

Re: 1974 BMW R90S - Silver Smoke - Is it authentic?

In the end, I was fortunate enough to find a low-mileage (14,000 miles) silver smoke R90S in fantastic condition. The bike sat in a musuem for 15 years and looks very lightly used. Just going through it now to get it ready for riding this summer! My R90S has interesting early-bike features like the ...

Re: 38mm Dellorto Pumper carbs

I have since read in Andy Schweitzer's book, "BMW Boxer from /5", on Page 45, that the curved guide tubes were dropped in 1975 as they wore out the throttle cables. My newly acquired 1975 R90S does not have the curved guide tubes. Interestingly, on my bevel-drive Ducatis, none of the Dell'...

Re: 38mm Dellorto Pumper carbs

An unrelated question about the 38mm Dell'Ortos on the R90S: I've seen photos of early, 1974 R90S Dell'Ortos with angled elbows at the top cap of the carbs. However, many later R90S don't seem to have the elbows attached. I'm looking at a low mileage 1975 R90S and the carbs don't have any angled elb...
