Re: R50S Restoration

I have available 6207M C3 and 6207M bearings. (The M stands for Messing = Brass cage). They are German FAG bearings. In original packaging. If you need them, let me know.

Re: Swing Arm Side Play

Holy crap. Thats not subtle. A few things need checking. First, remove the large aluminum cover nuts and see if the steel pivot pins are very loose. Irregardless, I would take the opportunity to check/replace the bearings and the rubber seals. Reseat the pivot pins. Also double check your drive shaf...

Re: Kicking off my R68 restoration

I strongly suggest you consider only a mechanical restoration. From the pictures it looks quite solid. New tubes and tires, grease wheel bearings. Rebuild shocks with new seals and make sure the stanchions aren't pitted. The motor and trans will likely need a going through, but resist the temptation...

Your bike is a Zabrocky type frame modification. I have an article about these frames and bikes if you care to take a look. May be of interest to you.

Actually Schrader, I believe it would be 2 sparks per revolution, one spark is wasted on each side per revolution.

Re: Centering Bushing?

Slight correction, the first 300 or so R68s did not have this centering bushing. Little known fact.

The R50US, with 24mm carburetors, does not use that bushing.

It is only used on the models R68, R69, R69S, R50S and R69US that have 26mm carburetors.

Re: Centering Bushing?

Probably not a big deal, but a cheap part nonetheless. I probably wouldn't make a special order to get them, but next time you order parts why not replace then. There is a step cut into the carb to accomodate the bushing. It's a ring with a split in it if I recall correctly.

Re: Rebuilding an F750

I think I may have some original stickers in that size that is on your tank. Tell me the diameter in millimeters and I can check. I got a bunch of stickers of varying sizes from an old BMW dealership. I know you are trying to save the originals, but in the event you can't, or they get damaged I &quo...

Re: Riddle me this racing aficionados

As others pointed out, this is 100% conclusively NOT BMW racing product. Cobbled together and/or fabricated by previous owner. Perhaps was a sidecar at some point given some of the brackets/handles that are on there. Interesting from an ingenuity standpoint, not so much from an originality standpoin...

The flat round area or "boss" was indeed intended for the application of a hydraulic damper on the right rear of late plunger bikes. So you may see starting around 1953. The damper was never put into production.
