Re: Speedo/Horn Rebuild

The horn only sounds in a narrow band along the adjusting bolt. Keep track of where the bolt was set originally, then try it for each half turn in and then out.

Re: 1969 R69S Advice to a new comer

If you go for it, I suggest you also get the Peel fairing, but not mount it. First get the bike running as a stock bike. Someone will want the Peel fairing and you can sell it if you decide later it's not for you. I agree that, if you do a full restoration, you will have to put in more than it is wo...

Re: 1969 R69S Advice to a new comer

There is easily $4k worth of parts sitting there, and is a pretty darn reasonable price for a complete R69S. In a worst case, you'll have to go through the motor, trans and final drive to turn the bike into a rider. Maybe you won't have to do that, depending on the condition of those pieces. But, fr...

Re: Fabulous R90S For Sale, see Bring a Trailer

I'm not sure why the restored bike got $60k, but there are a number of reasons why it might sell for significantly more than the original bike. Daytona Orange is more popular than Silver Smoke (there may be more DO bikes now than the factory made...) The original SS bike has a number of paint dings,...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

Not nearly enough! The R60 has been very reliable until the covid shutdown resulted in too much garage time with ethanol still in the carbs. The sidecar makes it a little less of a "jump on and go" option. I really want the R27 to be that bike, but until I can get it to where I can trust ...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

Did the R 52 get a bit breathless at 12,000 ft? It did! The last couple miles up to that pass could only be done in 1st gear. I did carry a second main jet, soldered up and bored to a smaller diameter, in case I really had to have a leaner mixture, but it kept chugging along, so I didn't mess with ...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

While I was without a modern bike, I put about 40k on my R90S. It's a great touring bike! I've also put about 20k on my R60/2 and another 12k on my R51/3. Those are fine weekend bikes and I've done a very occasional trip with them. 1975 R90S Most interesting for this topic, however, are the 3 cross ...

Re: Current Values are DOWN!

It might be that the stock market is hitting record highs and housing prices are rising, so collectables are not in as much demand as a hedge.

Re: Harry Buck's R5

if you're talking about the Megola, a bike with a 5 cylinder motor in the front wheel, it actually had a production run in the early 1920s. While rare and very unusual, it's not a 1 of 1 bike.

Re: Insurance

There are several specialist companies that insure vintage vehicles, and their rates tend to be much, much lower. Possibly the best known of these is Haggerty, but there are others. My old bikes are insured by JC Taylor. Some of these companies have yearly mileage limitations or stipulations, but my...
