Re: What model is this speedo for ?

Grant: That unit is identical to the one on my 1975 R 90/6 (with sidecar), right down to the W 1.144 number etched on it. Well - except yours is in way better shape. My speedometer is still accurate, however my tach is toast. I pulled the cable off of it as it was making wretched noises and didn't h...

R 75/5 Drum front brake.

The front brake on my R 75/5 locked up and threw me to the ground. There was very little damage to the bike as I was only doing about 20mph, but I ended up in the hospital with a broken hip. That was a month ago and I am still a month or more from recovery. This is the third time (going back to 1972...

Re: Just Shaping a Milestone

I did the rings at 47k miles. They might not be completely seated, plus I drained out the 20W50 in October and put in 10W40 for the winter months. I was used to it smoking a little on start-up but not where it affected running.

Re: Just Shaping a Milestone

Somehow I posted that without text. That's my 1971 R 75/5 that I just rolled over to 50 K miles. I parked it just before Christmas resting on the side stand. Last week it got back up above 50 so I rolled it out, checked the tire pressure and all the fluids, charged the battery and started it up. It ...

Re: Wiring harness replacement R75/5

Just passing on a tip from John Watts; While you have the headlight bucket off, paint the inside of it white. It will greatly improve the visibility inside the bucket.

Re: Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

Ok, am I missing something? Isn't a steering damper a device to adjust the damping of the steering? And, wouldn't the orientation of the arrows change as that adjustment is made? Maybe I just don't understand how it works. I thought you tightened and/or loosened the damper against a pair of tapered ...

My /6 is a 1975. This is what the steering damper knob looks like. As far as I know it is original.

Re: 1983 R100 clutch cable

SDCR;

I don't see what difference it makes. It looks as though the hexagonal shape is in the section that holds the cable. It looks as though the business end on the nipple is round brass. I think that so long as it fits in the nipple holder in the clutch lever it will work just fine.
