Re: Frame Repair Shop?

Was just there two weeks ago and visited with Kent for sometime. If they are closed/closing, that would be news to me. As noted in an earlier post, they did a great on my bike. Professional, efficient and done right the first time. Bike had a hard pull to the right from an accident by the previous o...

Re: 1980 R100RT Brake rebuild questions

The rear disc on these does leave a bit to be desired in a number of areas and it was a rather short lived.

The drum rear made a triumphant return in the mid 80's and lasted to the end of the run.

Re: 1980 R100RT Brake rebuild questions

Brook Reams has a good video and blog post about this. Simple search will turn it up. It is a Brembo brand part. Basically use a drill bit or thin barrel screwdriver to push out the piston from the open end (threaded end) of the m/c. There is no circlip at the piston end of the m/c. The seal on the ...

make sure the fender support is oriented correctly---if not it can cause binding in the axle.

Yep, that one next to the chain. Mine had come apart and needed replaced...so unlikely the issue for you. But yes, just throwing it out there since you are lookin for clues.

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

Had the experience of the oil pressure relief valve failing/coming apart causing oil light to come on at idle. Its a rare failure but it happens.

I too inspected all other systems until this ended up being the culprit.

May/may not applicable in your case. Good luck

Re: From Pennsylvania to Vinalhaven, Maine for an R80GSPD

Congrats on the new ride! I've owned an 81 G/S since 2015 and have serviced and updated nearly every system on the bike. Happy to provide some insight and pass along my experiences, as needed. If you are new to airheads (?) familiarize yourself with the MAX BMW parts fiche for your bike. Aside from ...

Re: Considering an R90S

Looks like nearly all the original and first year parts are still on the bike. Early voltmeter, angled throttle cable elbows on the carb top, among others. Nice to have tool kit, pump etc. This would indicate, to me, the bike has been looked after by caring owners in the past. If you are looking for...

Re: Considering an R90S

I was in your position for a number of years, looking for the right 90s. Original paint, low mileage, not modified, etc. Ended up with a 75 Daytona Orange that fit the bill for $11.5K in December of 2019. Bought sight unseen--but did get a bit of history from the owner-- before buying on consignment...

Re: 60/5 "Enduro" tire suggestions

If you do your own tire changes, have a look at the Shinko 244. Inexpensive and easy to change, if you don't like em.

Had this set up on my 60/6. They were a bit loud on the road but gave me the tread pattern I needed for my rural/off tarmac environment.
