1/26/83 Carb Leak through 181 air screw

Greetings, I have a 1964 BMW R27 S/N 383xxx. I have had the bike in my shop since December of last year. I ordered an overhaul kit and a spare gasket set for the 1/26/83 carburetor right away. I cleaned the carb, replaced all of the gaskets, the jet needle, set the clip in the second hole from the t...

Re: R27 Engine Rebuild Stand

Thank you very much for the excellent response. The right side of the V5017 drawing has the dimensions I need. Your in-progress mount and stand look like they will work very well. Good luck with your project, and thanks for your help with mine. Regards, Morgan

R27 Engine Rebuild Stand

Cycle Works no longer will supply an engine rebuild stand. How can I get a template for the four bolt pattern between the engine and the transmission? I intend to make my own stand, but I want it to be in hand when I remove the engine. I will appreciate any help. Regards, Elfenbein

R27 Right Hand Turn Signal Switch

The switch housing is chrome, but the top paddle is broken off. I don't know what the top paddle is for. Before I took it off on the perch the right turn signal worked, and still does. With the cover off, the plastic inside the case is broken also. From the outside edge the center of the switch is c...

Re: Klaxon horn will ping, won't toot

With the horn on the bench connect an Ohmmeter across the terminals; anything other than "open" is good. When the horn button is pushed current goes through the coils in the horn and pulls the diaphragm down. When it comes down it opens the points, breaking the circuit. The diaphragm bounc...

Re: Grease Zerk on Earles Fork R27

@jwonder, I took the flat zerk out to check the thread size... It is 8 mm, but with a little cleaning it looks like it works okay. The inside of the zerk is full of either rust or dried up grease. I have new dust seals coming. I am going to pull the bearings and re pack them, if they are not in too ...

Re: Grease Zerk on Earles Fork R27

@ jwonder, I took a .jpg picture of my fitting, but I have not been able to figure out how to post it. the fitting is 0.360 in. (9.14 mm) across the flats and 0.450 in. (11.4 mm) across the corners. There is a 0.500 in. (14.7 mm) washer that is almost flush with the swing arm. It is located less tha...
