Re: De-rusting R25/2 Tank

Hi Kurt- To your points, I've found the smaller black corks a more secure fit than the larger when screwed down in, (why I mentioned) and I generally put a finger on them when doing the shimmy and shake dance, and they've not been an issue. Sandwich bag or glove or whatever under the gas cap; have n...

Re: De-rusting R25/2 Tank

Hi Kurt- For gas cap I've used cling wrap, sandwich bags, or rubber gloves under the gas cap, depending on what was on hand, and what liquid was being used, (how worried I was) with the gloves from the parts washer being used when most concerned. Not had any paint issues using Evaporust or CLR when ...

Re: Spokes

Hi Bill- One can look at the spoke to see if it has rolled or cut threads. A cut thread will have a major diameter the same or less than the spoke diameter; the wire grain has been cut, which is why the spoke is now weaker, being only as strong as the minor thread diameter. A rolled thread will have...

Re: How hot is your engine?

Here's another datum- My rig is a '60 r69 w/spezial, 7/27 rear, carbided cylinders. On the days we do 100+ miles on the way home, I'll often take the engine's temp when rolling back in the barn. I take the temp at the heads, I'm not that concerned about the oil temperature, comparative head temps wi...

A beauty, Chuck-
And we don't get to see many of those hubs.
Thanks for the pics.

Re: 1965 R69S handle bar switch controls

Well- And now that I've had my morning tea and am waking up, I think I'm wrong on the above suggested part, that looks instead to mount a chrome blinker to a no switch perch. I've seen very few chrome blinker switches, usually bare or batwing, and so am unfamiliar with the perch for the chrome. So I...

Re: 1965 R69S handle bar switch controls

Hi Paul-
I've swapped switches around in the past, though never did chrome blinker to batwing blinker without a perch swap. (used parts on hand)
If keeping the original perches, I would think what you want is 32 72 2 072 175, as the right side companion to the 183 adapter on the left.

Re: R69s rubber throttle cable cover

Hi Paul-
I use the rubber boot at the handlebar throttle housing; figure its better protection for the cables with rubber boots at both ends.
Not all our parts sources show the handlebar end boot on their fiche, (Salis does) but they all sell it.
