Re: Shock Absorber

Hi Brett-
First, congratulations on your successful adventure; your interesting updates allowed us to vicariously enjoy the trip with you so thanks!

As for the rear shock assemblies, aside from the great suggestions already made, I'll add a few things you might check out before removing them for ...

Re: R25/2 wiring issues

Hi Carl-
You may have a time machine there; many of the early post-war bikes were sent to other countries as German war reparations, Greece being one of the recipients.
Europe relied very heavily on two wheel travel for a lot of years following the war, so chances are it saw steady day in day out ...

Re: Carb leaking, R27

Hi Patrick-
Thinking of your rattling shock; three things come to mind, if your rattle is external of hydraulics.
Are the mounting bolts secured; easy enough to check.
Are the silent blocks intact; see that the black rubber is not cracked or missing, see that inner bushing is still being held ...

Re: What kind of wheels?

I know nothing about these wheels, but am curious-
Are they 19” wheels?
Is the alloy rim a Weinmann?
It has the appearance of a Weinmann low lip profile, the bead knurling, and 4 out of the 5 safety dents appear visible.
On the 18” 55-69 rims, their logo is stamped next to the valve stem hole, which ...

Re: brake spanner finish

Brits’ use of the word “spanner” derives from the old German meaning: to wind (as in winding a spring) draw, stretch, extend.
Jan uses the term to identify the brake cam in his parts descriptions on the SalisParts website.

Re: Can I swap my R 60/2 front brake shoes with R 60/5 front brake shoes?

Hi Kurt-
The /5 front brake shoe is fundamentally the same as the Earles era bikes, except 30mm wide instead of 35mm; and yes, some folks used to swap them out back in the day.

If memory serves me correctly, this dodge was used primarily after the /5 and /6 had been introduced, when it was hard to ...

Re: R67 dynamo question

Hi Alex-
Think Werner is spot on.

If you want to stay stock, find the parts and someone skilled with old electrics. (yes, they're harder and harder to find)
If Vech's 12v is working, why not stay with it; if it's not, ask him about it, he's on the forum. (or call him, his number is on any of his ...

Hi Michael-
Have 652505 and 654246 here.
Both have black phosphate brake arms and linkage, cad on shock bolts, chrome I think is limited to axles, pinch bolts, headlight bolts.
The '59 came with the big battery box, the '56 was switched to the big box; switched the '56 to vented rear, '59 came with ...

Re: Platform for Extra Fuel Cans

Hi Brett-
Looks like it should work.
Being a cautious fellow, I'd be using a minimum 2 straps per can, but probably 3.

One thought is using something the way enduro teardrop bags attach; their bag sits on a platform, which takes the bag weight, and the platform attaches between the footpeg bolt and ...
