Re: Knee Pad Adhesive and Fuel Petcock Orientation?

Thanks for the replies. I am currently preparing the petrol tank for painting. It had a few deep scratches and some peeling paint, so I am going to repaint it. I found a local pinstriper who will stripe both sides for $150, as original. The problem I will have is that the frame is a bit shabby and i...

Re: Knee Pad Adhesive and Fuel Petcock Orientation?

Thanks, Kurt. I have some of the Permatex on the way. I can also use it for the engine badges, too, as you noted.
Also, I have the straight petcocks in hand and they will permit me to install inline fuel filters between the tank and the carbs.

Knee Pad Adhesive and Fuel Petcock Orientation?

I am just starting to prep my 1971 R75/5 fuel tank that had some deep scratches and a few small peeling paint spots. I was able to remove the knee pads with no damage but would like to have recommendations as to what adhesive has been used successfully to re-attach knee pads. There is evidence of so...

Re: Crusty Master cylinder

Have you investigated the possibility of having your mc sleeved. Here is a link to a company that has been known for decades for quality work: https://whitepost.com/brake-sleeving-rebuilding-services/ I have known of them but have not used them and they may be expensive, but it wouldn't hurt to cont...

R75/5 Replacement Starter Recommendations

After failing a number of bench tests, I have determined that my OEM Bosch electric starter on my 1971 R75/5 is kaput. I have discovered that "replacement" starters are priced from as low as $40 with free shipping to nearly $400 plus shipping. Usually, you get what you pay for, but is a $4...

Re: 1971 R75/5 Restoration

Very thorough work and excellent documentation. An interesting project.
We are not going into as complete a job on my 71 R75/5 and our pace, as a pair of Geezers, is much slower. We call my hobby garage "The New Geezer Garage."

Stainless vs. Chrome Exhaust Pipes with Steel Mufflers

My 1971 R75/5 has one rusty muffler so I bought a pair of chrome steel mufflers but now see that the existing head and crossover pipes should also be replaced. Is there any issue with SS head/crossover pipes connected to chrome steel mufflers? Or should I simply get chrome head/crossover pipes? What...

Kurt, Thanks, your source information is valuable. Literally. I have been away from BMW sources since I sold my previous R75/5.
