Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

Hats off to you for overhauling the gearbox...not a trivial thing in my opinion! What was the reason for doing that? Not sure where the clunking might be coming from but if it's worse than before, I'd have to think it's something that done during the process. Some critical spacing is required, typi...

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

So the electrics seem to be behaving ok. Maybe it’s just the fact that I’ve done quite a bit of maintenance now it’s just suppose to be running as it is, like a vintage machine. One thing I forgot to mention (or have I mentioned already…?) is that I managed to overhaul the gearbox. However the gearb...

I always thought five speed gearboxes were standard on the /6 era bikes? Kick start levers, maybe not? St.
Apologies deleted the “with a Kickstarter” from the message… was talking to someone as I was typing.

Andey , my 74' /6 has a kick start foot lever . R75/6
Yeah, not on mine.

Of course you can find a 5 speed gear box [with a kickstarter] on a /6. But I wouldn’t assume it’s standard.

Edited: [with a kickstarter]

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

LOL, if you don't mind points, don't have electric clothing, you really don't need to upgrade the charging or ignition. The fork braces and upper triple plate do make a (at least to me) noticeable improvement in handling and ride. Lots of other performance stuff in my mind is too much bother or mon...

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

I was contemplating upgrading everything, the charging system and the ignition. But when I see the new parts on the web, then look at the photos of what the original looks like and how it’s designed, I give up. I just like everything the way it was in the 70s. Granted I’ve swapped out for new parts ...

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

So I went to the bike to do some initial readings off the battery. Stationary bike: 12.45v Stationary bike with lights and dash on: 11.8-12.3v (jumps around then stabilises) Starting the bike but not running: falls to 11.2v ish then jumps back up. I’ll get a reading of the bike running when the weat...

Re: Alternator light slow to switch off

I think it's operating as intended. It might improve (i.e the margins at which the light comes on/goes off) as the cleaned brushes 'seat in' more finely to the newly polished/cleaned rotor. That’s the thing, it seems to have been more obvious when I cleaned everything. Before the light would go out...

Re: R75/6 rear brake adjustment/maintenance

Agree St… Brooks is a fantastic gent, his videos and website walk throughs are the best. Perfect amount of detail to understand how to do it. The clymer manual is great, but seems like it’s not the perfect gospel. I do reference it often, but make sure I get a second opinion from another source. Fun...
