Re: Question about Charging Light

Slash2, that's what it was. Tuned the idle down a bit and the light popped right back on. Guess I could have checked that first

Question about Charging Light

Hey Gang! My 1959 R60 is running great, but I'm wondering if I have a charging issue. When I first start up the bike the charging light comes on. As soon as I start riding the light turns off, which is what I would expect. What has me wondering is that the light doesn't come back on unless I shut th...

Re: A few tuning questions...

Hey Guys! Got an update for you: So, yes, I had put the transmission output seal in backwards. I put it in the way that seemed logical. Contain all the slippery-juice within the transmission, right? I understand now why that was backwards. I appreciate the tip that I (maybe) could have changed the s...

Re: A few tuning questions...

The output shaft seal could absolutely be the key. It's entirely possible I put that in backwards. Guess I need to pull the transmission and check. Good thing I love tinkering on this bike :D

Re: A few tuning questions...

I've tried both Castrol Syntrax 75-90 GL-5 and now Royal Purple MaxGear, which doesn't say if it's GL-4 or 5, but does specifically say that it's non-corrosive to yellow metals. I had the the same drip with each of them. I used the same amount with each oil, right up to the bottom of the threads of ...

Re: A few tuning questions...

Kurt, Yep, that's what I thought about why to adjust down the faster cylinder. Thanks! On the transmission, yes I filled just to the bottom of the threads of the filler hole. I'm using 75-90 gear oil. The vent hole is clear. That's where the oil is coming out. Pressure needs to be relieved out of th...

Re: A few tuning questions...

Kurt, Thanks for the quick reply! 1) I don't want to rev the bike up too high since I have only 140 miles on it since boring the cylinders. I want to let it break in a little more first. However, I think at higher revs the timing seems perfect. The S starts to move up at exactly the 1200RPM where it...

A few tuning questions...

Hey everybody, So I was here asking a bunch of questions last summer as I dove into the rebuilding of a nasty, rusty 1959 R60. Well, after plugging away all winter and spring, she's finally together and ridable. IMG_20210713_132419818.jpg IMG_20210615_151423961.jpg IMG_20210716_085634687.jpg So, now...

Re: Failure point heads up

Yeah, I figured it was likely a known issue. But a quick search for "cracked headlight ears" didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd mention it. Hey Chris, I have an idea! Why don't you send me your pile of cracked ones, I'll weld them up, then we can sell them and split the profits...

Failure point heads up

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a heads up about something I just encountered. While prepping the headlight ears from my 1959 R60 for paint I noticed they were both cracked in the same place: IMG_20210429_114522252.jpg There's a stress riser right at that point of transition where the folded-over b...
