Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Thanks Kurt. I will review this possible horn connection. I already saw this in the schematic. I will print the schematic provided and check. The coil (green) wire is certainly connected and was not missing just the mystery green wire not connected. There is an inline fuse but why would BMW protect ...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Hi again, the model is two in one. The electrics are for a /5. I put a /7 engine and frame with a /5 front end. I should have mentioned this in the beginning. I am so use to the bike it slipped my mind completely. So the headlight and electrics are from 1970 app. It's a mix but has been runni...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Again an update, but this is good and bad. I found a disconnected wire in the headlight assembly. :o Something in my troubleshooting review, long and methodical. I see two green wires coming out of the harness, along with a few others, from the bottom inlet hole of the headlight. One green wire goes...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Thanks for all the input and help everyone that chimed in. It seems I have a greater problem. Now when I engage the start switch I get an instant cutout and all lights go black. I am cleaning the switch now, and it I kicked over once. Is this a starter motor going bad? Any thoughts? The light...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Makes sense as well to me. The over-voltage would be fed back to the plugs instead of going to ground at the critical time. BMW made a strong bike. In the process of adjusting my Static timing plate with my Ohm meter I can get close to the timing marks but can't get it right on the "S". I ...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

I sincerely hope so. There is a big variance in valve clearance as well as the points. I couldn't find my Clymer so I referenced my Haynes. I was reading in my Ignition section that a faulty condenser can cause backfires and are notorious for doing this when hot. This could be one component that was...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

I went through the bike looking at everything in basic tuneup. I replaced and re-gapped the points and condenser. I checked the plugs. I looked at the valve clearances and found the intake side very tight on both cylinders. There was some minor end play but checked that too. I will do static timing ...

Re: R60/7 backfiring after warm up... help!

Hi, thanks for some of the ideas I appreciate it. I have not been Stateside long enough to rejoin a BMW riding club. I learned so much just riding with the experienced and good BMW owners in my early riding life, so the forum here really helps. I will recheck all the gaps, points, and tolerances. I ...
