Re: R51/3 one carb will not idle down

I would try swapping the carbs or just the carb tops to see if the problem follows either one. Agree. I swapped carb tops when my right carb slide started sticking. The right hand slide got stuck in the left carb barrel as well so I drew a horizontal line with a marker on the right slide and put it...

Re: Question on Resurecting a Barn Find

I use Prep All on all sorts of paint and it has never harmed it. Nothing as old as your bike but I have an '87 VW Vanagon painted with single stage original paint and it does not harm it. It's used by the auto body trade so you could ask on an auto body forum just to be sure...

Re: Avon Roadrider Source?

Thanks. I saw that they had the front tire in a previous search, but I don't see specs for the rear.

I find that site really frustrating to use. Reminds me of the days of using dial-up bulletin boards.

Avon Roadrider Source?

Anyone has a reliable source for Avon Road Riders? I've looked at a dozen online shops and no one seems to have the 100/90-18 front tire. The 4.00-18 rear is not too hard to find.

Please PM me if you can help. Thanks.

Re: Exhaust Removal Advice

Got it, thanks. Whoever put the exhaust nuts on the last time must have used some because they were the easiest part of that whole job to take off!

Re: Exhaust Removal Advice

I've tried all of those bluing "removers" on many bikes in the past and none of them really work, as far as I'm concerned. 20 minutes of rubbing to take bluing off 2 square inches - no thanks. It's why I took the exhaust off in the first place - I knew the headers would clean up on the buffer. How e...

Re: Exhaust Removal Advice

Follow up on removing the exhaust - Right muffler came off in 5 minutes. Left muffler took 2.5 hours of spray, heat, wiggling, jiggling and cussing. Crossover pipe would not budge no matter what I did. It's location under the motor makes getting to it far more difficult and makes tool and method cho...

Re: Exhaust Removal Advice

Thanks for the Aerokroil tip - I'll see if my local Napa store has some on Monday.

Yes, exhaust nuts are off which is why I was wondering if they can be rotated outwards as I loosen up the crossover.

Exhaust Removal Advice

1968 69S. I thought I'd polish up the exhaust system over the holiday. It's in very good shape - no rust, some bluing, etc. Got the right muffler off. Left muffler is stuck. Liquid wrench on all the joints. Heat. No joy. Both crossover joints seem to be moving a little. I thought if I could get the ...

miller6697 - I was referring

miller6697 - I was referring to the painted black rack that sits on the rear fender, not the folding chrome rack referred to as the "folding rack".

I've seen them at several vendors and wondered if they are different or all from the same source.
