Re: What is the ideal rider height?

If you are used to riding modern bikes of normal size, or even large vintage bikes (Harley), the Earles bikes will feel tiny. I'm 5' 8" and 165 and they feel small, but perfectly proportional to me. But I also ride a GL1800 and Honda CBXs. At 6' 4", I'd think I was on a Honda Mini-Trail. ...

Re: R60/2 best place to source a centrifugal advance unit

As Vech stated “you’re not driving nails here.” I was reluctant at first to take a hammer to the old girl but got the timing very close with that technique. My R50/2 came with a pentecom plate and it is very easy to time with it. Like an old Chevy.

Re: 1969 R69S Advice to a new comer

Have you seen this one in person? These days the scams are more prevalent than actual offerings. For your sake I hope it’s real but i haven’t seen a complete anything for that cheap in a long while. If it all adds up go get it. Agree. An R69 came up allegedly in my area and when I made inquiries, t...

Re: Abracadabra: White rubber disk on drive shaft bell disappeared

I see what you mean, but having owned a BSA M20 for decades, this is where I laugh, whereas with the BSA I cried. Theoretically, if someone were to travel the roads I was on with the BSA dragging a huge magnet behind him, there is a high chance that he could assemble half a motorcycle from the part...

Re: Battery

Must be a supply chain issue. I’ve been trying to find an AGM Battery for an old Harley. All the vendors are out of stock and they don’t know when they’ll get them. Luckily it’s winter here and I have other bikes to ride if we get a break in the weather.

Re: Dual points for R69S (or any twin with magneto ignition)

Thanks Vech for detailed explanation. Can this be done with a Pentacomm plate? Yes, same procedure. The only thing a pentacomm plate does, is it forces you to change the point gap, via use of an allen wrench, to adjust the timing. Unlike the original set up, here is no movable breaker plate that th...

Re: starting a 65 R50/2

I took my R50/2 out yesterday for a ride before the weather changes and tried the above described procedure. No start. Went back to my tried and true method. Turn on fuel. Crack throttle. Tickle carbs for 3 count. Two kicks with ignition off. Ignition on kick. Vrooom. First kick. I also have several...

Re: starting a 65 R50/2

ALWAYS turn off the gas and let it run awhile before shutting it down. If you learn the “starting procedure” and you have your bike in good order/ state of tune, it will always start the same way……unless something is wrong. I always say when it comes to BMW…. “ it will start in 1-2 kicks, OR 30-50!...
