Mal, I'm quite impressed with

Mal, I'm quite impressed with your abilities in putting together your own tools and your methodical approach; I'm of course following along with this through my own R69S tear down, but I'm simply working out of my garage; aside from having a few specialized tools, I feel like I'm just rubbing two st...

Great photos and additional info.

Kurt, what you said made sense to me, too...overcoming the additional weight of the sidecar would be easier with a little more heft, no? Tommy, your point is well taken too. As it happens, I have the VAPE charging setup on this bike already, and that's one thing that was working pretty well before t...

Great info...

Many thanks for posting these comments - all good information here. Regarding the above statement that Vech indicated the R69S flywheels were 9lbs, I'm curious if there are any other sources out there that would corroborate this specific number; however, it does jive with jambo's statement that thes...

Questions regarding lightweight flywheel on R69S

'Hope everyone is staying safe and well these past few weeks... I have VERY slowly been tearing down the engine on an R69S for rebuild (link to thread here ). Though I am still a long ways away from putting things back together, I have questions about the flywheel, or rather the lack of one. I was t...

Thanks for this suggestion, Jim...I'll admit that did not come to mind, and I bet I'll have other opportunities to use this advice later on, too.

Much appreciated!

Hello everyone,I had to take

Hello everyone, I had to take a brief hiatus from this project due to family obligations, but I'm back to wrenching now... The motor is finally out of the frame and on the bench. I put together a fairly solid engine stand using some decent lumber I had lying around, so the motor is now secure and ap...

Thanks for all the help!

Thanks to all for their advice and information thus far. Tommy and James - I didn't hear anything from Joel, but I did place an order through VAPE...looks like it is supposed to be here shortly, so thanks to both of you for your help. Twocams, I appreciate your info/offers as well...guess I should h...

More damage, first road block...

Well, after spending some further time in disassembly this morning, the left cylinder lifters exhibit some significant pitting; haven't pulled the cam yet, but of course that looks correspondingly bad, too (and my morale began sinking...) I've attached images of these and the left piston showing ski...

RE: head gasket...

Twocams, your question is well taken; what you see is mostly due to my bad photography and the fact the head gasket separated a bit and adhered to the head in that location. After examination, I didn't see any evidence of blow-by or escape of oil, gases, etc.

Thanks for your scrutiny, though!
