Re: Old Dirty R69 - From Basket to Bike

Rode the old girl out to a bike show this past weekend, and a good friend shot this tintype of the r69. Thought some folks here might enjoy seeing it as much as I did. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3dANZ6JQ0DjcRjH9JUcBr57YYjYdoADzVGulF8cF3mBHf4XvebLde7OYhC30w79UwILyNFJ_aIiGOjLXCZviHP-2wv...

Re: Old dirty r69 - from basket to bike.

I wish I had more detail on the bars. All I can say is they were in the box when I got the project. I assumed they were aftermarket, but they definitely look period correct and they are well made. If the handlebar risers are any indication, I'd say they've been on the bike at least 50 years... :D

Shakedown!

I'll be honest and admit that the 1st time the thing fired - it startled me. What an exciting moment though. I gave the whole bike a "tighten up" and rechecked all the fasteners I left half loose. I put a fresh charge on the battery and checked fluids, air pressure, cable tensions, etc. I ...

Long road to carburation

I've mentioned a few times in this story that my carbs were pretty rough. My ambition and enthusiasm lead me to buy almost every rebuild part available, including some oversized slides. This put me in purgatory for a while, as cutting the inside of the carb is no small feat. I posted separately here...

Re: Adding oversized slides to the bing carbs?

Thanks for the responses. schrader - I did call BING after your suggestion and they don't do the throttle body boring. But they have all the parts I need to do a standard rebuild. Icarus - you make a good point about questioning how precise this actually needs to be. I may just get new slides and fi...

Adding oversized slides to the bing carbs?

So, my carbs are not great, and the slides were stuck when I began disassembly. I sourced a set of oversize slides, thinking I could just have the carb bodies cut by a machinist to renew them. The guy I have been working with is unable to cut them though, for fear of his tooling interfering with the...

Re: Greetings from new member, rookie questions about my '65 R69S

Cool bike and great pics. I really like all the aftermarket kit.
Small detail - but I don't think the foot pegs were plated originally either. Looks cool though! Kinda wish mine were now.

Speedo knob from nothing.

Took a page from Bikesmith01 and made a new knob for the one that missing from my speedo. Fiddly little job, and not as nice as his titanium one, but I'm happy with it. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3dJxP7j9A7pyTHDqjtaVmcUQgu3vGFbhbPnSZ7ntBTp9F8eVMXPFpb3MgyXWPovHLLUlRpP3-HpY9xiPuw7lYyfMg...

Starting to look like a bike...

Few steps closer... just waiting on carbs and then the final check list and tighten up. Think I'm happy with my shiny / grungy look. These exhaust pipes are glorious. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3dmmXdafGa4OR_esQ1lChpsLOQane56BIT25hoUYxVzJ8C-0Rmx76tCGiiNAnCGYaz3RK4amcKFFpgs7vuGp1BRigqH...
