Re: 1959 R60

paint and striping is done. Did some of the legwork myself and saved myself about $300 on the original quote. Anywhere I can cut some costs i'm happy Only issue I'm having now is the lock on the gas tank. I bought a new lockset, riveted it in, closed the door and it wouldn't open again. So i had to ...

Re: 1959 R60

I'm not sure I can give an honest opinion with the Ikon. I never rode this bike, or anything comparable in age so I don't really have a baseline. The guy that's been the most helpful to me recommended these as a little better than a stock replacement for road feel and the fact that I'm a taller/bigg...

Re: 1959 R69

Well lots of progress made on this bike over the last summer. Mostly thanks to a great group of guys I met via facebook that are 2 hour or so south of me. Everything has been cleaned, disassembled, reworked. Cylinders reworked for new pistons. New ikon dampeners front and rear. New stainless exhaust...

Ok explain the patina thing to me

Ok so I purchased this off my Uncle who was the purchaser in 1959 in Germany when he was stationed there. Thanks to social media I found a group of enthusiasts who have been invaluable in helping me with this bike. However some people say keep the bike unrestored in some areas. For a memory refreshe...

Re: Guidance

20200820_194659.jpg 20200820_194007.jpg 20200820_185352.jpg well last night got the final drive out. Came out easy and then spent 30 minutes cleaning off 60 years of grease and muck. Anyone have any luck with cleaners? I've tried foaming engine degreaser, not that great, simple green so-so, 1st ayd...

Re: Guidance

I've got a one gallon container of Kroil. While the stuff is a miracle, some of these 60 year old bolts are just going to give way. Anyhow, not sure what happened with the right side port but the heads are going to be sent for rework. A very kind person and obvious enthusiast named Trig is guiding m...

Re: Guidance

ok motor and trans are out. Left the cables on since I couldn't get the carb tops off and didn't want to screw them up. Also for the life of me I couldn't get the timing retard to let go so took that off the bar side. Now my big question is I need to transport the motor for 150 mile trip. I assume I...

Re: Guidance

ok thanks for the info. My plan is to remove the whole drivetrain since you can tell from the pics she sat for a LONG time(30+ years) so i'm going to replace/rebuild everything more for my own safety since I plan to make this into a rider. Just trying to make as little extra work for myself as possi...
