Re: Gears grinding when trying to shift up or down

I have the same thing going on with mine. The guys that helped with my resto bascially told me get to speed, pull in the clutch count, shift, etc.

Downshifting I have pretty much mastered. I've found that my 59 R69 likes higher speeds/rpm than lower for cleaner quieter shifts.

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

I'm 53, my bike is 63. I think my bike even with it's current issues is probably in better shape than I am. While I've not driven it any real distances yet once I know it's dialed in my plan is to do a saddlesore 1000 on it. It may be an age thing but I actually think my R69 with the ikon shock cart...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

I'm in Waunakee, just north of Madison. I can listen to your motor, are you interested in riding to my place or would you prefer I visit your house ? Do you know the history of the engine ? Have slingers been serviced ? Total mileage, etc. Have the valves been adjusted lately ? Send me a message wi...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

I am amazed at how well this bikes ride and perform. I put modern shock cartridges in but I really think it's the Earles forks that make these bikes shine. Power wise, well, nothing to be excited about but definitely adequate. Once I get the last few little quirks out of it I'll probably ride it wor...

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

Where in Wisconsin are you? I'm in the West Bend area and my bike starting making a strange(at least to me) noise. Not sure how well you know these motors but if you're close enough I'd love for someone else to get ears on it to tell me it's normal for a 60+ year old bike or something needs addressi...

Re: 1967 R69S restoration

There is a group of guys in the Chicago area that were the reason my 59 is back on the road.

I can't speak for them but you'll find a few of them on Facebook. Really helpful guys.

Re: How much do you ride your classic ?

I have 1953 R51/3 and ride it about 1500 miles a year but have entered the Cross Country Chase in Sept to ride/race it on Route 66 from Springfield IL to Santa Monica Pier. Route is revealed daily but probably be about 2700+ miles in 10 days. I have little doubt it will perform beautifully. No ques...

How much do you ride your classic ?

My 59 restoration was completed about a year ago now. I live in Wisconsin so we have a limited riding season. My other bike is a 2017 Ultra. I've got a new Indian Pursuit that's on order but the world is crazy right now so it's about a 6 month lead time to get it. Since the completion of the restora...

Re: 1959 R 50 - bar end signals

motorcycles didn't need mandatory signals until 72 or 73. They were optional items to be added on during the ordering process. I looked at adding them to my 59 R69 during the resto but I didn't have the proper switch on the handle bar. If I had known about the way jwonder did it I would've likely ad...
